Twilight gazed down at the foal in her arms. She drank in every inch of her, from the soft twitchs of her ears, to the tiniest freckles on her face. Somehow, she looked even more precious now that Twilight knew this little one was really hers; a fact she still had a hard time accepting. Hours seemed to tick by and yet, it was like no time had passed at all. She was stuck in limbo with her tiny bundle of joy, at least for this moment.
As Twilight continued to look at her, the stronger her feelings of motherly love felt. It was overwhelming. Everything bubbled up inside until her body couldn’t take it anymore. Twilight didn’t know when she first started crying. All she knew was that her face suddenly felt warm and damp, while her vision blurred. Twilight squeezed her eyes to shut out the tears, but they just poured out even more.
Leaning in, She nuzzled her little foals face that was so soft, that Twilight worried that if she pressed any harder, she’d break her. Instead, the feeling of warm breath on her cheek and the tears that drip down on her, caused the filly stir awake. She opened one eye, then the other, before yawning.
Twilight chuckled softly, nuzzling her cheek again. This time the filly cooed, reaching her tiny hooves up to cup Twilights muzzle.
“Good morning, my little Pansy,” Twilight whispered softly.

I bet you never saw this coming.
So how did Twilight come to adopting the little filly as her own, even while she’s still a single Pringle and unmarried? Well, it was nothing as simple as a trip to the local adoption center, oh no. What happened was far more….life changing.
Unlike most tragic stories, this one didn’t happen on a stormy night, or a night at all. It was day; a warm, sunny, beautiful evening. The sun was just getting ready for it’s decent into the night, while Apple Jack was just getting ready to call it a days work. That is, until she heard horrifying, bone chilling screams coming from the south side of the Everfree. Everypony knows that side tends to have more Timber wolves roaming its territory. Everypony in Ponyville, that is.
Calling her husband, AJ and Trouble Shoes rushed head on into the brambles and vines, following the continues screams for help. Suddenly, the screaming stopped. The two ran deeper in until, they stumbled across the lifeless bodies of a mare and stallion. Despite the fact that there was no blood, the sight was still sombering. They both agreed that all they could do now was to honor the dead with a proper burial and so, heaving them onto Trouble’s strong, bulky back, the two trotted out of the forest with heavy hearts.
Right before they got free of the dark and damp air of the forest, AJ caught a small, innocent sound. At first, she thought she was hallucinating; that she wanted to hear some sign of life again, that she made it up in her head.
But there it was again. A tiny hiccup. Then a gurgle. Was that….cooing?
AJ had to know what it was, real or not. Asking Trouble to stop, the mare quietly stepped into the bushes in the direction of the sound. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Right under an over hang, in a bed of pansys growing at the edge the forest tree line, was a tiny, gurgling foal. She stared up at the stunned mare completely unfazed and seemed quite comfortable. AJ felt like she was walking in slow motion as she lifted up the foal. Maybe this was her second chance.
As AJ neared Trouble Shoes, with the bodies still on his back, they both watched as the filly started to reach out to the mare for a hold, only to start crying when her mother didn’t respond. Two didn’t need any more proof. Trouble shoes walked ahead to bury the bodies, while AJ tried to calm the crying child on her back to the house. It was time to call in the girls.
Night had just settled in when all the Mane six, save for Rarity who was still in Canterlot at the time and Fluttershy who couldn’t leave her newborn son at home, finally arrived. They all instantly fell in love with the filly and took turns holding her as they discussed her tragic past and unsure future. But as much as Rainbow or Pinkie or even AJ wanted to adopt the little filly into their own families, each decided they just couldn’t. Rainbow couldn’t raise an earth pony, Pinkie already had enough to take care of another on the way, and AJ was only in the first trimester of her first pregnancy. She couldn’t imagine trying to raise two newborns at the same time. Each time one of them declined the idea of adopting, the conversation always circled around back around the to the topic of the orphanage.
When it was Twilight's turn to hold the baby, they seemed to be stuck on that word. Orphanage. It sounded so cruel to her. She just couldn’t bear the thought of this tiny filly with her tragic beginnings living her childhood with no loving family to grow up in. But what else was there to do? Everypony just couldn’t make it work out. Everypony….but her. She wasn’t married, which means she’d have to raise the filly by herself, but she felt sure she could it least give her a more loving home than even the best orphanage could offer. She could do it.
Twilight looked down at the filly with tears in her eyes amd she felt deep down as if she was holding what she had been longing for all this time. The missing piece in her life. Someone to love. Twilight knew what she had to do; what she wanted to do.
Once the papers were signed and the details worked out, then Bada Bing Bada Boom, Twilight found her self the mother of this tiny, sniveling, adorable filly. Little did she know, this was just the beginning.
( I hope this wasn’t too lengthy for you guys. I tried to keep it short and snappy as I could, but it’s a long story even summarized. I plan to show more of Twilight with her new daughter, Pansy, later today. Feel free to let me know what you guys think of it! )
