History:
Azure Melody was the surprise child of Fancy Pants and Rarity. The two parents, though they had not planned to have children, were instantly captivated by their daughter and doted on her as much as they possibly could. Melody was quick to bond with her 'papa' and Fancy was eager to give his daughter all the toys, clothes and spare time he could muster if it would make her happy. But, spare time was something Fancy had in short supply. Since he still worked in Canterlot he couldn't visit Ponyville very often. The personal time they spent together meant more to Melody than any gift, but both Rarity and Fancy knew this couldn't last. Their relationship became strained early on and, while they remained good friends and still enjoyed each other's company, the passion that had brought Melody into their lives had fizzled out. While the two were never married, the split was noticeable and Melody did not take to it well. As a filly she begged her mom to let her go live with Papa in Canterlot to attend school with other unicorns, but it was Fancy who refused. He knew all too well how the selfish and self-centered attitudes of Canterlot could warp a pony and he dreaded his daughter being bullied for her rural upbringing.
Begrudgingly, Melody started school the same year Lacey and Goldie did. Though she regularly stated that being in Canterlot would have been preferred, she was quick to befriend most of the well minded ponies and even at a young age found herself drawn to Lacey's company. She found the quiet filly, welcoming and enjoyed having someone to talk to who would just listen for hours on end. Over the years, Lacey became her go-to bestie and the girls were hardly ever seen apart in town, at school and even at Rarity's boutique. It was about this time that Melody noticed Applejack showing up more and more at the boutique. She liked the Apple family just fine, but when her mother revealed that she and Applejack had decided to start dating, Melody was furious. She felt that Rarity was betraying her and Fancy Pants and vehemently refused to acknowledge Applejack's existence. She spent that summer in Canterlot with her father, who was able to talk Melody out of running away from home and admitted he was happy that Rarity was moving on. Over the summer Melody calmed down and came home. She gave her mother her blessing and apologized to Applejack, but she never quite came to peace over the issue.
Once Lacey started apprenticing in Rarity's shop however, Melody had to find other means of entertaining herself. She began to spend more time with Goldie, though the hyperactive unicorn made her miss Lacey's calm presence even more. Up until then she hadn't given much thought or care to what her special talent or cutie mark might be. She actually found her bare flank to be pristine and perfect and would have been happy without a mark. But, after stumbling into a Karaoke bar one night and being mistakenly shoved on stage, she discovered that she LOVED the thrill of singing in front of a crowd. She'd always enjoyed singing and her parents had always said she had a beautiful voice, but it wasn't until she heard the applause and cheers that night that she realized she wanted to do this for the rest of her life. She went home that night, sporting a new cutiemark and a new life goal.
Rarity, Fancy and Applejack were so proud and quick to congratulate the young mare. Thanks to Rarity's connections with Sapphire Shores, and Applejack talking with Coloratura, Melody was signed on as an opening act for a few concerts. After that she released her first, small album which sold far better than anticipated. From there she was signed to a record label and was sky rocketed to stardom. With her mentors, her family and her friends supporting her every step of the way, Melody was able to find her passion in life. Though she spends most of her time on tour, in recording studios, or socializing with other celebrities, she still considers Ponyville to be her home and makes a point to visit at least 2-3 times a year.
