Well, you’ve heard Pumpkins origin story, I suppose it’s only fair I tell you Pounds. You should know, his won’t be nearly so…dramatic, like Pumpkin’s was. But don’t let its simplicity lead you to think his story won’t have an impact on the KOPverse.

Because trust me, it will.

Despite being born to two parents with exceptional baking skills, Pound wound up lacking those genes entirely. In fact, he’s such a wreck in the kitchen that he’s been effectively banned from even so much as touching the stove. Pound won’t be crying over this any time soon, considering he doesn’t even like cooking in the first place. Having to read specific, monotonous ingredients, slaving away over making it all just right, only to wait gulp patiently for it to take hours and hours it to cook is not Pound’s idea of fun. So when they couldn’t find a place for him in the kitchen, Mr. and Mrs. Cake had other ways of keeping him busy. Primarily, by having him help out with the delivery service. To be fair, the job did have it’s perks. It gave him plenty of time outdoors where he couldn’t break anything, a chance to get out of the stuffy bakery, ̶p̶l̶a̶y̶ ̶a̶ ̶f̶e̶w̶ ̶h̶a̶r̶m̶l̶e̶s̶s̶ ̶t̶r̶i̶c̶k̶s̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶k̶e̶e̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶s̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶e̶r̶e̶s̶t̶i̶n̶g̶,̶ and even practice his flying speed. Still, it certainly wasn’t the job Pound wanted to keep for the rest of his life. No, he had a much bigger dream in mind and he was confident he could achieve it. Of course, most ponies thought it was pretty presumptuous of Pound to go around claiming he had his Wonderbolt career in the bag, but none could deny that he did have talent enough for a fair shot at the position, which only encouraged Pound more to pursue his goal.

Now, becoming an expert at flying so as to join the best flyers in Equestria doesn’t happen overnight and even though Pound devoted all his spare time to practicing, his day shift delivering delicate treats around town kept him too busy to progress. However, that all changed once Pumpkin convinced her brother to stop mooping around and actually do something about it. Why Pound never thought to ask Rainbow Dash to train him before, no one really knows, but it could have something to do with the fact that Pound was frankly toochicken to ask. But with some help from Pumpkin, who hid near by so as to be his ‘support’, Pound finally went up and approached her. Rainbow, of course, knew Pound had talent and was more than happy to agree to training the kiddo, only she’d better do it fast before he passes out in front of her- oh wait, never mind. This wouldn’t be the last time Pound would feel faint, as the following training sessions with Rainbow proved to be harder than he thought. Still, for all the times he’d have to fly through storms, drag boulders through mud, ride a homemade, risky version of the dizzitron more than times than all the hooves he saw Rainbow holding up, and weekends he’d have to roll out of bed to go train, it was still better than delivering desserts every single day. Not to mention, pretty soon, all his hard work would begin to pay off.

Some might be tempted to think that Pound was handed his position on a silver platter without him doing any work- what with him getting special training from a certified wonderbolt who could easily put in a good word and influence so as to guarantee his position and all. But despite such rumors floating around and stirring up a little jealously, none of it was true. Pound may have been taught by Rainbow, but it was his ambition and integrity was what earned him his status as the youngest Wonderbolt of the team. To Pound, it wasn’t really about the time in the spotlight to show off or even all the ladies flocking that would around for his attention. I mean sure, those were all really nice benefits, but in the end it what made it worth it was being able to do what he loved best- flying. Flying at such altitudes and with such aerial maneuvers that you get so dizzy your nose bleeds, but you don’t care because the feeling of the wind, of adrenaline, of freedom- it all makes the pain feel like nothing. Of course, the fame does go a teensy bit to Pounds head. But despite being pretty prideful and overconfident when it comes to his flying, Pound has never stooped so low as to rub his status as a Wonderbolt in someone’s face and use it as an excuse for jerky behavior. In the suit, he’s a cocky, impressive dare devil who will eat your dust for breakfast, lunch, and dinner- but out of the suit, Pound’s just your average Joe chillaxing on a cloud in the perfect position for someone called Champ to easily prank.

Odd isn’t it, that the first Wonderbolt in the KOPverse isn’t Rainbow’s son? But you know, if your own kiddo can’t fly, that leaves the position open to train some one who can.
