Artist's Description

I recently adopted this beautiful unicorn zony from Blackblood-Queen and thought I'd draw a little backstory. It's nothing terribly indepth and it may or may not have just been an excuse to draw a zebra >.>

Top: Golden Letter, despite her name, wasn't born into wealth. She lived with her father who owned a quaint little quill and parchment shop in a small village in the middle of nowhere. Despite not having very much income, Golden's father was content and happy in his place of living, constantly reminding his daughter that she too should be grateful for what they have, saying they are rich in so much more valuable then just gold and silk.

But Golden wanted more then this kind of life of scrapping by. After her father passed away, Golden took her inheritance and moved to Canterlot, in hopes of becoming something more. She was lucky enough to get a well paying job as a personal secretary for a noble, but unfortunately she soon found out that the only way she would be accepted into the upper class society was to marry in..

Canterbury Bells, on the other hoof, was born into the nobility and knew nothing else but the luxury of having everything handed to you on a silver platter. From a young age, Canter's clothes were picked for him, his food picked for him, and even when he became an adult, his wife was picked for him.

Even though it was an arranged marriage, Canter did grow to love his wife and was married to her for 30+ years before she passed away. But Canter wasn't given much time to grief, for his wife was barren and they did not produce an heir for the Bells estate. It seemed at every outing he went too, there were more and more potential suitors, trying to woo their way into the widower's heart. So Canter went out less and less, only accepting a few in his estate, one of which was his personal secretary, Golden Letter.

Golden filled out her duties to the mourning noble, as well giving a sympathetic ear, seeing that she can relate with the loss of her father. After bonding and comforting one another, the two spent a few years as not just work associates, but as close friends and lovers. In an adorable stumbling and fumbling fashion, Canter eventually proposed to the much younger mare and they married, his wife taking on the name Golden Bells.

Many of the nobles and upperclass ponies disapproved of Canter's actions, claiming that Golden was only a … well.. a gold digger and using him for his wealth and status. Canter quickly rebuked such accusations and said that Golden has given him so much more valuable then any amount of wealth and status could.

Middle: A few years have gone by and despite trying countless times, Golden wasn't able to produce an heir for her husband, believing this would be the only way that the snobby upper class ponies of Canterlot to accept her as one of them. After another failed attempt to get pregnant, Canter surprised his depressed wife with an early anniversary gift: A exotic vacation through the heart of Zebrica. It was wonderfully romantic and Canter and Golden were having a wonderful time during a personal safari tour… when everything went horrible wrong.

A couple of elephants were having a not-so-civil disagreement over remembering a certain event differently, which caused the rhinos to get get huffy, and the wildebeest and antelope started to panic over all the stomping and started a stampede. Unable to get away, Golden was separated from the rest of the group and run off a cliff into a river that swept her body down stream.

Golden awoke in a tent full of strange looking tribal items and herbs. The owner of the tent, a young zebra named Sadik, gently reassured the terrified mare that he is a healer… well, a healer-in-training and that he rescued her from the river. Despite questioning the Elephants and Rhinos in question, Sadik wasn't able to figure out with Golden's husband and the rest of her group had gone. She believed that she was truly alone and because of her injuries, Golden had no choice but to stay in the care of Sadik until they would be able to travel to any village to contact the Equestrian Embassy.

It wasn't for a couple of months and during that time Sadik and Golden became close with each other…. very close. And well…

Bottom: …. You can imagine what happened next. After being missing for a few months, word finally got to the Equestrian Embassy and back to Canterbury, who was never lost hope that he would someday find his beloved wife. After a happy, tearful reunion, Golden was taken back to Canterlot to her estate and was heavily pampered and loved on. A month later, Golden finds out that she is pregnant! The happy couple are overjoyed and arrange everything for the soon arrival of their newest member to the family. After a bit of a scare and a slightly premature birth, Canterbury and Golden Bells were happy to announce their baby……. zony? ……………….. oh Bollocks.

Understandably, Canter was devastated by this, but after a tearful apology, Canter quickly accepted this little squeaky, pink, bundle of joy as his own daughter and named her Impala Lily, after a beautiful flower found in Zebrica.
