"…and you even serve them in Equestrian size? That's wonderful!" Elaina Mash said giddily to the human bartender standing on her hoof. Despite being—from his perspective at least—high in the air and inches from the face of a giant, he kept his composure perfectly. He even held a toothy, cocky grin on his face as he read off he drink order: Gin and Tonic on the rocks, with a generous spritz of lime.
"Well, we can hardly give you a drink sized for us, now can we?" He quipped, wiping sweat off his tanned brow. "At your size, you wouldn't taste even the strongest drink we have, then! …No offense," he added, looking a tiny bit nervous. That sort of remark could be taken the wrong way pretty easily, and given how most mares would react to being called fat…
Elaina chuckled and waved a free hoof. "None taken. I know what you mean, little guy. Now let's get you down—you've got other customers!~" Winking at the bartender, she carefully set him down on the beach and watched him jog away and get to work, disappearing into the crowd of humans all around the beach.
Closing her eyes, the towering mare grinned as the sun beamed down from above; that balmy heat alone was worth coming here. Not even the beaches at Los Pegasus were this nice! The sand was snow-white, and fine as powder; there were no annoying magic-wielding critters in the water to ruin a good soak or swim (not that anycreature WOULD want swim in Earth's oceans: the risk of stirring up a tsunami or capsizing ships in their wake was more than a little off-putting, to say the least), and of course the locals were friendly.
Still, Elaina wished she had somepony to share the fun with. Button was back in Equestria, and she hadn't spotted anyone she knew yet…
"So, are you napping, or just keeping the sun out of your eyes?" Came a familiar voice, laced with both cheer and a little snark.
Elaina's eyes snapped open. When she saw the mare approaching her, she broke into a grin. "Velvet! It's been a while!" she greeted, getting to her hooves. Placing her hooves with great care to avoid stepping on anyone, she trotted over to the unicorn and hugged her. "Just when I wish I had somepony to share this vacation with…so, what brings you around?"
Twilight Velvet smirked. "Looks like I still have that impeccable timing, eh? Well, ever since Twilight became a Princess, things have been going a mile a minute: mapping out her new kingdom, drawing up new districts for Parliament, scaring off scheming noble stallions trying to wed her as a power-play with kitchen knives imported from Griffonia…well, you get the idea." She snickered at the last one, fitting in a devilish little wink. "Poor Moonlight and I have been running ourselves ragged trying to help poor Twilight adjust, and a few days back she insisted we take a little break. Arranged a nice trip to Earth for a week or so, so we could get some R&R."
For a moment, Elaina pictured her friend gleefully showing off a kitchen full of shiny, sharp Griffon cutlery to some poor aristocrat sap. She'd seen some in magazines; the Griffons had an odd habit of making their kitchen-blades look just a little like actual swords…she laughed, shaking the windows on a passing cruise liner that skirted Velvet's hooves down below. "Heheheh…sounds like you've been pretty busy, Velvie." She gave the other mare a quick, casual nuzzle as Velvet rolled her eyes and chuckled. "Now as for me, I've been taking a game-design class, for ponies and humans, back in Equestria. Figured I could turn my hobby into a nice job, and…"
She was interrupted by the unmistakable sounds of helicopter blades, and that sounds was coming from behind her. Velvet's grin melted into an incredulous, wide-eyed stare as the noise grew louder. "What…in the name of…?!"
"Gin and Tonic with lime, on the rocks, with a lime wedge! Pony-sized!" An amplified voice yelled out. It was male, colored by a musical accent and a slight touch of static—obviously from a radio or loudspeaker. Grinning even wider, Elaina turned around (still with care, to avoid smashing into any nearby boats or surfers with her tail, hooves or flank) to face a white helicopter hovering before her, the cantina's logo of a smiling parrot holding a mug of beer in its wing emblazoned on the hull…
…And a giant martini glass hanging below it, suspended by cables. Her drink swirled within it, sunlight playing off the glass-clear ice cubes
"That was fast! You guys know how to make an entrance!" Elaina cheered, taking the drink in her hooves. She took a sip, fluttering as she swallowed. "Ahh, that's the stuff. Put it on my tab, gentlemen!" She sketched a salute to the pilot as he flew off, then turned back to Velvet.
"So. Since Twilight's a Princess, does that make you a Countess?"
