If Fluttershy hadn't struggled enough with Lokie's birth, the months following were absolute torment. From the moment his egg hatched prematurely, Lokie seemed intent on wheezing, hacking, crying, coughing, and making a general fuss 24/7. On the rare occasion that Lokie wasn't battling his average Tuesday cold, he was inherently weak by nature and needed around-the-clock attending to. And nopony else but Fluttershy could give him the care he needed. The only reason Lokie made it through those first several months was all because of Fluttershy's unending devotion and patient loving- and possibly her special brewed dandelion soup. Still, the late nights of interrupted sleep and constantly having to comfort her son- all while still having to manage Harmony's magical outbursts and rambunctious nature- took an obviously heavy toll on Fluttershy's overall health.
Even after Lokie grew up into the healthy, albeit weaker colt he is today, Fluttershy herself admitted that that time was by far the most nightmarish experience of her life.
Her friends were dumbfounded as to how she kept going with her chin up in her state. But whenever they ask her, Fluttershy just smiles softly, and sweetly replies that all it took was one look at her little kitten to give her the strength to carry through.
