Sandbar can leave a very strange impression at first blush. His swordplay is very zen and patient. Those who watch can tell the only things in the world are him and his target when his sword is drawn. Some would even go to call it a mastered craft. However, after actually starting a conversation with the earth pony, it becomes apparent that all that was seen is a by product of a very relaxed personality. A very relaxed, carefree, “I’d rather be watching clouds float by” attitude seems to be his modus operandi. After the true impression has been observed, most realize that this unique combination of personality and sword technique is perfectly matched, if unintentionally so. That carefree nature lends itself to clearing his own mind from outside distractions. Few things are so important that they would draw his attention away from this one thing he’s doing.

Sandbar’s family isn’t one of direct nobility, but it is a branch of a branch of one. It is rare to see too many Earth Ponies and Pegasi in Canterlot have a high lot in life since its a mostly Unicorn city. It's the same in the major cities that they populate, Manehatten and Cloudsdale respectively. The Earth Pony himself lived a well to do life with his family of four. He attended a normal school since, as a non unicorn, couldn’t attend any Magick schools that Canterlot was well known for. In fact, he wouldn’t even know how to use a sword if his parents used what little connections they could to get him a spot in a Red Mage class of all things. Some of the more uppity students would mock him for his lack of Magickal prowess, but they would also then eat dirt at his clearheaded swordsmanship. One of his coaches took note of how quickly he could adopt the lessons, and directed him to a class more suited for his magickless style taught by one of the former royal guards to Earth Ponies looking to learn Canterlot-style Swordplay. It was under this new tutelage that he became a true Fencer. Being under 2 differente teachers allowed him to use his sword in a very unorthodox mix of the two schools. So unorthodox that his Fencing teacher couldn’t recommend him to be a knight candidate in spite of being one of his better students. He could, however, get a recommendation to a test school headed by none other than Celestia’s graduated Student herself.

His life at the academy took a turn he for the unexpected right from the first day as he bumped head with a griffin named Gallus. Sandbar has since been integrated in the circle of international students due to his own lazy sense of responsibility getting him roped up with them initially. That first adventure made helped him warm up to the group completely. His status as the sole pony in the group was never a topic of conversation or really anything of note until the end of the first year of attendance during a coup. He was able to cleverly fool the charmed ponies of the school into thinking he was using the international students for fame while they were captured. Without him, they would not have been able to confront the mare who sought power.

Royal Rapier — A farewell gift from Sandbar’s Fencing teacher. He could tell there was a lot going for the young Earth Pony, and while it wasn’t in the cards to be a knight, there’s a lot to see in a fighter who can keep as cool a head as that student could. The sword is the symbol of belief the master has in his student.

Fencer’s Garb — A thin top and bottom that allow some defenses while giving complete freedom of movement. Sandbar has a tendency to wear the op as an undershirt since it feels a lot nicer than the stuffy uniform against his fur. His friends are too afraid to ask how okay he is wearing unseasonably warm layers of clothes all the time.
