Nightmare night is the second biggest event celebrated on Sweet Apple acres, with the first being that of the Apple Family reunion. Every year, the corn mazes seem more endless and puzzling, the hayrides are filled new and exciting horrors along its path, and even the Carmel apples taste twice as delicious as last seasons batch. It’s no surprise then that the spookiest holiday of the year is Cricket’s ultimately favorite holiday if the year. Free candy, the smell of adventure and cider everywhere, and the chance to run around late at night with friends. What’s not to love about it?
Oh, that’s right, Apple Jack’s pesky rules. You see, ever since Cricket first started tricker treating, her Mama hovered over her like a gnat on a hot summer day and was twice as annoying. It took her several years, but she finally convinced AJ that she was a ‘big girl’ at 8 years old, and that she didn’t need AJ to watch her every step or count every calorie for each candy bar. However, her new freedoms came with certain strings attacked. A long list of them.
There were many little rules that Cricket could have gotten away with, like ditching her ‘protective gear’, visiting the forbidden busy roads, and eating certain unhealthy foods- if it wasn’t for one big problem. Dusty had to be by her within a 10 foot radius 24/7 regardless of any circumstance. Dusty himself prefers the homestead activities to roaming streets, but he enjoys spending time with his little sis. And being the careful, obedient, stuffy big brother he is, he makes sure that Cricket followes every single rule.
Well, for the most part. Cricket had her ways and often took what chances she could get to sneak off and have a little bit of harmless fun, while returning just in time so as not to get in trouble. A true trickster indeed.
On a related note, sometimes the tables turn and it’s Cricket who is there for Dusty. More specifically- to help her brother by holding his hoof whenever they approach a rather authentic-looking haunted house.
