When they were young fillies Carolina had a set of bullies that would tease and make fun of her for her small size and her blindness. She didn't want to involve anyone and wanted to just ignore the mean, older colts and made her best friend Amethyst not speak up either, Carolina wanted to handle them in her own way and Amethyst reluctantly allowed her. That is until the lead colt bullying Carolina took his harassment too far causing the young filly waiting for Amethyst to take a hard fall. Amethyst, who was on her way to walk Carolina home, came bolting in between the bullies and Carolina.
She commanded the colts to never approach the pair again and while the main bullies sidekicks shied away in guilt and reprimand, the largest colt only angered in being talked down to by a tiny filly, daughter of a princess or not, who was she to command and look down on him. He threatened Amethyst to back down or he would do much worse to her, that Carolina deserved what she got for being weak. Amethyst snarled and launched herself at the colt who had tried to get around her to Carolina, she could have used her magic but her mothers constantly reminded her that a young ponies magic was often uncontrollable and unpredictable. They doubly warmed that her strong magical bloodline would make hers doubly dangerous if used in fear or anger, so she would use her hooves to deal with this bully.
The colt was at least twice her size and apparently didn't care that she was younger or smaller. His friends called out and tried to pull him away but he bucked the pair away. The fight progressed and Amethyst was holding her own, using her size and speed against her larger opponent. She could hear Carolina call for her to be careful and that they should just leave it but Amethyst knew this bully would only get worse unless her was properly dealt with. She took a few nasty hist bust the worst was when she felt his teeth clamp around her ear, she tried to wriggle away but his grip was too tight. As she got her hooves underneath her enough to buck his stomach, she felt sick as a chunk of her ear ripped away with him.
She shuddered from the blood she could feel dripping down but launched herself at the colt again using her horn to slice into his chest. Finally the bully's friends pulled the colt away as he swayed on his hooves. As Amethyst swayed herself due to the hoof she took to her nose that caused her to see stars, Carolina pressed herself close and helped the unicorn stay upright.
"Ammy, you should've just left it alone" Carolina gently scolded as they slowly made their way to the castle, the closest of their places. Amethyst began to snort which turned into a whimper of pain. "Sorry Carrie but after what he did to you, he wasn't gonna go away on his own and no one's gonna hurt you like that if I have anything to say about it". Carolina sighed, knowing the mare was right but still disliking the way it had to be resolved.
"I'll always be here for you Carrie, I'm not afraid of getting my hooves dirty" Amethyst declared as they stumbled over some uneven ground. Carolina just shook her head and leaned up to nuzzle the underside of Amethyst's jaw, feeling what must have been blood smear onto her muzzle, "I know Ammy and I'll always be here to help clean up the aftermath". When the two finally made it to Twilight's castle there was much fussing over the pair, and a call for Fluttershy to come for Carolina. Amethyst got a very stern lecture from Twilight about how to use her words not her hooves and how an adult should have been informed to handle the situation, but later than night as Starlight came to tuck her in she told Amethyst that she while fighting should never be her first response, she was proud of her daughter for standing up for herself and protecting her friend.
