Ok so. Up untill this morning, I had the concept of an actual father for Cadance. I had a design for him. I sketched him, I drew him, I made a cutie mark for him.
And then my friend said "it would be cooler if cadance had two moms"
Aaand then I dived in too deep into the idea and scrapped him right away c: I can show him to ya guys later but CHECK OUT CADANCE'S PRETTY MOMMAS.
Ok guys, these are Princess Noelle Niflheim and Allegra Hearthfire. Noelle is the heir to the Crystal Empire's throne, while Allegra is a common crystal pony and owns a tavern/hostel. Allegra's talent is hospitality and making ponies feel welcomed.
Noelle was the only child of her parents, born a pegasus and ascended to alicorn at a really young age (I forgot her horn really). Ever since she was a little foal, she would always be reminded of her duties as a princess and be under the pressure of one day inheriting the throne and bearing the responsibilities of ruling the ancient crystal empire. She didn't have the most easygoing childhood. Training, studying, exercising. Ever since she was young Noelle had been polished to become a suitable ruler.
On the other hand, Noelle was never taught important aspects of life such as compassion, warmth, empathy, friendship, turning her into a respectable and responsible figure, yet cold and sort of emotionless mare. As young teen, she was already granted an alicorn status due to her compentence and was eventually crowned the ruler of the Crystal Empire. She was elegant, flawless, respected, truly a figure to look up to, though she was also viewed as scary and intimidating by a few of her subjects. Not the easiest ponies to befriend if you asked me.
Untill one day, during one of the princess' patrols around the empire, a unusual mare shamelessly attempted to hit on the princess. Dense and dull as she is, the princess probably didn't interpret her pickup lines as she should, and was kind of confused at her. Allegra probably giggled and mentioned how ,y'know, most of your subjects wouldn't be so afraid and intimidated by you if you cracked out a smile every now and then, beautiful, I bet you'd look pretty cute. Noelle was outraged. How dare she? Her subjects? Afraid of her? How can a mere commoner offend the princess like that? She was respected. Her subjects admired her. They did… Right?
As much as Noelle wanted to convince herself that civilian was wrong, she doubted herself. She felt… Insecure. She was sculpted and polished to be the perfect ruler ever since she was on diapers. She was skilled at everything, refined, elegant, responsible… She was meant to be flawless. But she lacked something stupid and simple as being friendliness and warmth.
Althought she was ashamed to admit it, Noelle reached out to the mare. She was the owner of a small yet well-known tavern. It wasn't a big deal of a place, not even close to the finest, first-rate hotels she's known of, and maybe even a cramped place comparing to the grandious and endless halls of the castle. But… It was a cozy environment, the atmosfere felt so warm and welcoming, nothing like she could have ever felt on the crystalline floors and walls of the castle.
Noelle questioned the mare about her own demeanor. What is it that she needed to be the perfect leader to her subjects? Allegra, as the commoner was called, was quite surprised (and pleased) by the unexpected visitor. "Hon, when was it the last time you forgot about your resposibilities as a princess and your duties to your subjects and had fun? Really, you're the crystal princess, but you ain't no crystal statue or something", said the mare. Really, if Noelle was shown a bit more compassion and sympathy since she was a kid, maybe she would be a better princess, warmed, friendlier.
Determined to learn about being compassionate and warm (for the sake of her subjects, at least initially) Noelle spent more and more time with Allegra. Allegra quite enjoyed her company (specially cause she'd get to spend time with the super cute princess) and often dragged the princess along with her in her everyday life. They either spent time together outside or in the castle (Allegra was allowed in the castle as some sort of "lady-in-waiting" for the princess)
Extrovert, fiery, passionate, outgoing and a huge, HUGE flirt, Allegra was eventually able to melt the princess' ice heart. Although Noelle remains as a serious and cool figure, she did learn a lot from Allegra's warm and friendly personality, developing feelings for the mare. Noelle had always been some sort of tsundere sort of, so it took a looong time for her to admit she had feelings for the mare. Allegra was able to teach Noelle the wonders of love, compassion and warmth, and that status and wealth itself doesn't make a leader.
Extra: Allegra's pet name for Noelle is "Holly"
Eventually, the two of them make their relationship official and marry, and later they have their precious bundle of joy, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, or Cadance. Cadance's birth was the beginning of a new era to the empire. She was a symbol of light and love and ever since she was born, the empire was prospering with love and hope, and stayed that way for quite a few years, untill the ancient villain, King Sombra awakens, becoming a threat to the wellbeing of the empire and it's subjects. He managed to attack the empire and his curse fell upon the crystal ponies. Knowing Sombra would be after Cadance, the heir to the crystal empire and source of love that supplied power to the crystal heart, Noelle told alegra to Allegra run away from the empire with Cadance. Queen Noelle was turned into stone and Sombra took over the empire. Allegra was told to seek help from the two sisters, and leaves Cadance in Celestia's care. Just untill she was old enough to ascend to alicornship and defeat Sombra once more. Probably due to Sombra's curse and from not being exposed to the crystal empire's power (which was extremely weakened after Sombra's takeover), Allegra died shortly after.
