Applejack sighed as she lowered herself down onto the carpet. As soon as she was down, she stretched her aching arms and legs and frowned. She’d already been pregnant once, she knew what to expect. The baby had awful timing though — it was the start of harvesting season, and she was too far gone to do any farm work. Thankfully, AJ’s friends were available to help.
Fluttershy had already flown to and from the field several times to check on her wife: make sure she was comfortable, needed anything, etc. Applejack had had enough of the fussing, and insisted that Shy focus on helping the others in the field.
“Alright…but don’t hesitate to call me if you need something!” Shy called over her shoulder. AJ had shook her head with a smile at her wife’s concern.
Now, the mare was trying to relax, despite her hooves itching to do something. AJ spotted a crossword book on one of the tables and decided to take a crack at it.
“Mama?” a small voice called from the stairs. “What’re you doing in the house?” The filly trotted down the stairs and into the living room.
“Hey there, Burrow!” Applejack gently tousled her daughter’s already messy hair. “You mind helping me with this one? It’s a seven letter word for pink. Where’s Aunt Pinkie when you need her, huh?”Woody pouted. “You didn’t tell me why you’re inside, Mama! Everypony helps out with the harvest…if they’re grown up.”
“I’m just a might tired and achy is all, sugarcube,” AJ replied, “I just gotta take it easy for a while — wouldn’t want to hurt myself or the baby, y’know?”Wood Burrow ducked her head. Applejack frowned at her daughter’s nervousness. “You’re not..hurting, are you Mama? You’re always so strong and tough, but now..you’ve been like this for a while…”AJ smiled at her filly’s concern and gently wrapped her in a one-armed hug. “Aw shug, don’t you worry about that. A new baby takes a lot of time and hard work is all, even before they’re really here. After they arrive, it won’t be long before your Mama AJ is back on her hooves and better than ever!”
Woody smiled shyly, feeling a bit better. “Thanks, Mama.”Applejack grinned down at her. “No problem, shug. Now, how would you like it if I talked to cousin AB about showing you the ropes around here? I know you’ve been itching to get yourself out there!”The filly bounced in excitement, “Oh, yes please!”
