- Crescendo is the first born and only son of Twilight Sparkle. Crescendo was born premature, and for a while doctors feared he would not survive. This only made his mother try harder to make him grow and stay healthy, and of course; he survived and grew into a perfectly healthy colt. For most of his life, he did not know who his father was. His mother did not tell him, and at times, even asking her would upset her; so over time he stopped asking all together. When it came time for his mother to fall in love and marry a Crystal Empire Royal Guard named Flash Sentry, Crescendo (at first) was hopeful in gaining a father figure for once in his life. He began spending time with Flash, and asking him questions his mother couldn't really answer for him. And for a while, things were going fine. Then Twilight became pregnant, and ended up giving birth to her second born; Nova Star Sparkle.

- Crescendo immediately disliked Nova. He often wished his mother to "bring her back where she got her". Over time, Twilight and Flash began giving more and more attention to Nova, noticing her qualities and talents; whereas Crescendo was given lectures and told he was now responsible for chores and protecting his little sister. As they got older, Crescendo came to love his sister despite feeling envious of all the attention other ponies gave her; He never let it show though.

- Things began to unravel once Nova was old enough to discover her destiny. Crescendo had always hoped he was one of the new ponies of destiny from the journal entries Twilight would read him, and he had always known about the element his mother found at the base of the Tree of Harmony, and always hoped she would give it to him.. But she gave it to Nova. And as it turned out, she was indeed one of the new six ponies of destiny. A new Element of Friendship; Bravery. This made even more ponies love Nova. Whenever they left the castle together, she was always the one to get the attention, the admiration, the love. Crescendo felt alone, he felt ignored. So he spent most of his time in his room going through his royal duties and studying the many books his mother would bring him on a daily basis. Eventually, that loneliness got to him and left himself susceptible to a darkness he was not prepared for.

- Due to Crescendo's jealousy and loneliness, he was possessed by a dark shadow referred to as the "Tenebris", which slowly engulfed his soul from the inside out, and lead to Nova having to gather the other five new elements of friendship to help save him before the Tenebris swallowed his soul completely. The Tenebris was able to shadow trap the Elements and turn them on Nova, and in the end, it was Crescendo's soul that saved himself. He was able to fight off the darkness long enough to send himself plummeting into the ground. Crescendo sacrificed himself to save his sister, friends and Equestria from the darkness taking over his body. With Princess Luna's help, she was able to seal the Tenebris inside a book and send it away for good.

- Crescendo actually died from that experience, however with the help of the new elements, Nova and her friends were able to save Crescendo's life moments after his heart gave up. This incident however left scars on his cheek and neck; Reminders of how keeping in his feelings of envy and anger can lead to catastrophic results. And from then on, he never held back his feelings from anyone again; And he and Nova became very close.

- Crescendo is in love with one of the new elements; Apple Spritz. (Daughter of Flim and Applejack) They have been best friends since they were foals, and Apple Spritz was the first to fall in love with him. She hid her feelings for him in fear that a powerful Royal would never love a boring farm pony like her. Eventually, Crescendo began dating Solar Flare (Daughter of Firestreak and Sunset Shimmer) They seemed like the perfect couple at first.. But their competitive spirits and attitudes ended up causing friction in the relationship, and Solar began letting her pride get the better of herself. She became verbally abusive and bossy, and caused them to fight everyday. This led to Apple Spritz stannding up to her and Crescendo having to save her from getting hurt in a magic duel against Solar. After hurting Crescendo, Solar came to her senses and apologized, but knew they had to break up.

- After breaking up with Solar Flare, Crescendo and Apple Spritz stayed friends despite Apple Spritz's confession of love for him.. over time, Crescendo started falling for her, but his fear of losing her as a friend got in the way of being with her. But as hearts usually go, he ended up giving in, and confessed his love to her anyways. They began seeing each other, But in private. They started things out slow, but as they continued seeing each other in secrecy, their relationship developed faster. Eventually, Nova and a few others found out, and he revealed he was in love with Apple Spritz.

- Crescendo has a dragon assistant named Aphrodite, or Didi for short; same as how Twilight had Spike. He and Didi were inseperable when they were younger, but as they got older Didi started doing her own thing; but she is still extremely loyal to Crescendo.

- Despite being Twilight Sparkle's son, Crescendo actually takes after Princess Luna. Although he is going to take the throne someday after Twilight steps down, he is also to be the next pony to raise the moon at night. None of Luna's children obtained the magic to control the moon, so she taught Crescendo.

- Crescendo discovered who his real father was after Twilight confided in him about it. This led to a heated arguement between Crescendo and his mother, as she lied to him about most of his childhood regarding his father to try and spare him pain of thinking he was dead as she did. His father, Shadow Lock, revealed himself to be alive through a letter to Twilight. Despite not knowing anything about his real father, Crescendo feels no ill-will towards Shadow Lock. He doesn't refer to him as "dad" yet, but he welcomed him into the family after hearing his story about what happened to him, and where he was after all those years.
