"Wow."

That was the only thing said between the two fillies as they admired their surroundings. The wind was nice and warm, fluffing up the two mare's manes. The sand was cold, yet refreshing, and the sound of the waves breaking off seemed like music to their ears. Well, mostly to Sea Salt. This was something different from her everyday life.

"Don't you think it's awesome here, Fin?" the golden filly asked, smiling gleefully at her best friend. Golden Daze's voice was raspy, yet warm and soothing. It was a little squeaky, but she was young.

"I've never seen anything like it," Finnie responded, her pupils growing large. Her wings fluttered with excitement, curiosity, and ambition. She never wanted to leave. The sand in her hooves, the wind in her mane, the large waves hitting the rocks against the shore, but there was one thing she absolutely loved about this place: the smell. The smell was nothing like she's ever smelled before. It was salty, but wasn't at the same time. The scent of the trees and the water mixed perfectly together. It was like she was at a fresh new bakery. She wanted to try everything.

"Well, bud- I brought you here for two reasons," Daze said, looking at quiet friend. It seemed like her heart was in her golden eyes.

"Hm?"

"First- I thought you'd enjoy it here."

"I definitely enjoy it here, mate. The warmth of the wind, the sound of the water, the smell of the trees"

"Ha! I knew you had a little hippie in 'ya!" Daze snorted, busting out laughing. Her head bobbed as her obnoxious laugh filled the ears of her friend's. Every time Daze made herself laugh like this, her mane would bounce up and down. Finnie always thought it was the cutest thing.

"Okay! Okay! I get it, you scrub!" the blue Pegasus laughed out, pushing Daze to the side playfully.

The two just laughed it out until it was silent. There wasn't any awkward silence. The atmosphere was quite blissful. The two just stared at the water, enjoying each other's company.

Finnie coughed to relieve the silence. "So, what's the second reason?"

"Oh," Daze responded, immediately looking at the ground. The feeling around the two fillies changed instantly, like a black cloud formed over them out of sadness. Finnie had never seen Daze upset before, like ever. The tan Pegasus was a tough, rock 'n rollin', bruised up dork, not a emotional freak. Even from how close the two fillies were, Finnie had never seen her friend so upset. She'd also never seen a pony change the mood so fast.

"What, Daze?"

"Well
you see" A tear rolled down Daze's face, making Finnie freeze up. What was she supposed to do? This has never happened before.

"Daze.." The little hippie mumbled, moving closer to her upset buddy. "You know you can tell me anything."

"Yeah
" she started, her voice cracking. Her voice was now distressed and strained. "I was going to tell- you- a while ago, but, I never got the- chance"

"C'mon, mate, I'm sure it's not that bad." She nudged Daze gently.

"Well
I-"

Just then, a loud cry formed beneath the ground, shaking the earth like an earthquake. It caught the two fillies off guard, making Finnie look up immediately at the water. Another cry bellowed from beneath the water, making the blue Pegasus stand up and walk towards it. "Daze, you hear that?"

"Yeah."

Another cry, one even louder, quite literally pulled Finnie into the water. She found herself swimming, looking at Daze. "Hold on, I have to see what's up." She then dove beneath the water, searching for the ear piercing sound.

She listened carefully to the cries, following the noise with her keen ears. Her cheeks were big from holding her breath, like balloons about to pop. It took a while to find the source of the problem, as she was losing her breath.. fast. Her little wings fluttered faster and faster to find the danger. She has never swam in such deep water before, and that scared her. New, frightening things always set her off, but she felt like she had to do this. Thankfully, she found two baby dolphins struggling to get free from a big net. They looked starved and hurt, and poor Finnie's heart broke right then and there.

The filly looked at the babies with trustful eyes. They were soft and mellow, calming the dolphins down immediately. Losing her breath, she threw the net off of the creatures, setting them free. The dolphins quickly grabbed her up and pulled her above the water so she could breathe. Finnie practically took the biggest breath of her life, being soaked from the water. Her mane was in her face, covering her eyes, as the baby dolphins rubbed their bodies against her as a thank you.

The first pony she thought of though was Daze, and she reached her arm to remove her mane out of her face. "Daze?" Her orange eyes scanned the sand, and the water, finding no trace of her best friend. Finnie hopped out of the water, searching around. She couldn't see her cocky friend anywhere. "Golden? Daze?"

Where did she go? Finnie couldn't find her. She panicked, her little filly heart racing from the idea of her friend leaving her. Why would she leave? Why? Why did she abandoned her? The little mare began to cry, her heart aching. She needed to know where she was at.

She never found her though.

As she cried, her flank flashed a bright white, blinding her tears.

Here's a little backstory on these old besties. Classy, I know. (sarcasmmmmm)
