Okay so, it all really started off with taurs. I wanted to make a pony taur, and with a fair amount of pulling and stretching, and the tracing of a set of arms, I managed it.
Then a friend mentioned I could use that as a jumpoff point for anthro, so I gave it a shot. The third step is the result, and needless to say, it did not go over well.
I let it sit for a few months, before Sweet Cream @hapaloch took a look at it, and gave it a go-over with redline, prompting me to adjust it to the shape in step 4. It's also at that point that the default pony eyes were ditched for Equestria Girl eyes.
Finally, after passing it around through @Ksano's Discord channel, getting thoughts and opinions from all the artists in there, the head was changed to the form you see now. After a year of tinkering and tweaking, the last step is the form that I use today, for all anthro rigs being made, now and in the future.
