What were to happen if The Storm King didn't have the Staff of Sacanas as his object of power? What if he had his own staff with its own powers? Well, before Hasbro and DHX's final decision, it looked like his staff was shaped differently than it is now… much more similar to his insignia. According to The Art of My Little Pony: The Movie, The Storm King wielded the staff throughout the entirety of the movie, as both his weapon and his symbol of power. It was his, and I'm pretty sure that he didn't complain about it being a "twig." In fact, according to Stormy Road to Canterlot, he wielded it when he and Tempest Shadow first met. And I got to admit it looks more evil than the Staff of Sacanas does. He probably didn't need Tempest Shadow to fuel it with pony magic since according to some artwork he already had the power. According to one idea, it belonged to Tirek's brother, Scorpan, before Tempest took it from him. So that leaves so much theories opened if that was the case.
Either way, I really liked the initial design for the staff, and it was just as easy to make. I even came up with an idea related to this. In place of the Staff of Sacanas, The Storm King, after being resurrected by Grogar, would be given his own staff. Either he uses it to steal the princesses' magic or he has his own I've yet to decide. Despite that, I really love this idea.
