A recently finished commission of Lightning Dust just enjoying the thrill of flying. Creating cloudscapes can be fun but also tricky. They can be very solid in appearance but are still made up of just water vapor. They can have complex and surface texture to them but must remain as background elements. They often subtle, nuanced colors that do not lend themselves to scanning and reproduction.
Even with my wife's excellent scanning and tiling skills I had to spend about an hour today selecting and adjusting a PSD file the Smudge had to created to capture some of textures and details in the sky.
The image size is 14" x 17". It's a mixed media piece of colored pencil, marker pen, technical pen, and white gouache. The working surface is Strathmore 400 series vellum finish Bristol Board.
