Story: Aestus Noctis is an uncommon pony. She is the daughter of Luna, but comes from another dimension.
She was born an alicorn, much like Flurry Heart. Her mom put all her efforts on teaching her all she knew. Aestus actually found it interesting at first but slowly grew tired of all the responsability the Princess title bore. She is not really good at magic unless it involved the moon. She is really fond of the sea and likes to mess with the tide every once in a while to collect pearls, rocks, and starfish.
This caused a lot of fights with her mom in the past. Luna claimed Aestus didn't care enough to try and improve her magic skills and instead went and made her own job harder because of the impromptu tides.

After a foalhood and early adulthood of unhapiness, Aestus decided to get away. The problem being: her mom and aunt will always be able to find her wherever she went. So she decided to travel through dimensions.

She heard of a mirror she could cross and end up in another reality. She knew she wouldn't look like a pony anymore and probably wouldn't have her powers over the tide but she just wanted a life away from her family.
She knew where the mirror was in the castle and had no problems finding it.

When she crossed, she felt dizzy and fainted.
When she opened her eyes again, there was somepony standing above her. A stallion. Wait a minute, she was supposed to end up in another dimension? She straightened up and found an orange stallion wearing glasses and a cloak. He told her she was in his home and appeared out of nowhere. When she told him the whole story, he relaxed and introduced himself as Sunburst. He told her she indeed travelled through dimensions but not in the intended way. The mirror had been broken for several years and his own adopted daughter, Sapphire Twinkle, couldn't go back to the "human" world. Sunburst and Starlight kept the mirror in hopes someday Sapphire's mom would find a way to cross back.
So instead of travelling to this human world, Aestus just travelled to this other pony reality, straight to Sunburst and Starlight's home in the Crystal Empire.

Aestus introduced herself as Tide. She never liked her full name, too regal and foreign in her opinion.
Sunburst gave her an old yellow cloak he never wore so she could hide her wings for the time being. He didn't want everypony to freak out seeing an unknown alicorn outside.
Together they managed to personalize it a little bit so it fitted her better.

Sunburst then advised her to go to his daughter's house in ponyville. He couldn't host her in his house because he didn't have enough room for her. He also had a hunch that Tide and Sapphire would get along just fine.
He send a letter to his daughter, and Tide was off to ponyville.
