After my headcanon on underwater people, I got to thinking about the movie again and what happend to the characters in my nextgen verse. I've mentioned Tempest and Grubber just a little bit before, but haven't done anything with Capper, the Pirates, Skystar etc. And I got the sudden itch to draw kitties, so here we go. Not sure if these will be part of my main nextgen cast (though knowing me, I'll suddenly start to obsess over them and make huge plotlines I'll never get around to drawing/writing =P), but it's fun to make characters so here we go :)

After the movie, Twilight offered to help Capper find a job in Equestria if he wanted. He did briefly consider it, but decided that he felt much to restless to stay in one place and took to the roads. He traveled throughout Equestria, before leaving and exploring Yakyakistan, Griffonstone, the Dragonlands (very quick visit there) — a bit of everywhere, really. He was in a small city on the border of the Bone Dry Desert, trying to swidle buy supplies for crossing it, when he came across another Abyssinian; a very rare sight out there. He charmed her and they hit it off, had some fun, and then parted ways, probably to never see each other again, he thought. He was technically right. He wandered around a bit more, before finally going back to Klugetown to check up on his stuff and get some business in order. He was just there for about a month, when one morning he opened his door to a shoebox with a kitten and a (very uninformative) note. Well, kittenlitter.

He is not the best person to raise a kid, he knew that much. But at the same time, Klugetown isn't exactly a good place to grow up as an orphan -in fact, he'd say it's one of the worst places he could leave the kid. And he did not have enough money to travel back to Abynissia to drop the kid of there. Equestria it is. Just gotta get there, drop the kid of at the nearest orphanage, and he's back to business.

What followed was a few weeks of scrambing for baby-supplies (how does the entire town not have one nursing person!? Non-mammals, ugh, guess you're living off infant milk powder for a while, kiddo …geez, they sure know how to charge for this stuff, you owe me for this), a mad dash across the desert (Is he overheating?! How much water does a kid need?? Oh no, now he's too cold!), a highway robbery (please, for all that is holy, take what you want, here's the coat off my back, just leave me the milk powder and water — I can't lactate!!), storms (Guess we're waiting it out in this cave huh? Stop giggling, the only reason you're not drenched too is 'cause of me. Oh, catnip, you're cold again), and finally arriving in Equestria, dirty, tired and hungry -with a healthy, chubby, happy baby strapped to his back.

…now all he has to do is place him at the front door of the orphanage… place him at the orphanage… place h-i-m… -Stop smiling, I'm trying to abandon you.

Kittenlitter. Again. He's survived a sweltering desert, storms and being attacked for this kid -ugh, guess he cares about him now.

…Well, at least he did all of that pretty good right? Maybe he won't be the absolute worst parent this kid could have? Hopefully.

Though, he supposes that if he is to… be a dad… he needs somewhere to live (that isn't Klugetown) and some way to feed them. …maybe the Princess' offer is still open?


And that's how Twilight found a naked Capper on her doorstep at two in the morning, with a kitten nomming on his tail.

Well, he did get both a job and a new coat, curtesy of Twilight and Rarity respectively. He got hired at Twilight's school as a part-time security guard, part-time teacher. His class is in how to recognise frauds and people pretending to be your friend to get something; nothing like first-hand expereince in the subject!

He also had to, you know, give the kid a name. Signing the kid's citizenship papers (Thanks, Twi!) with "Kid" wouldn't look too good. Now, the kid has the type of point coloration where the melanin production is affected by heat, which means that he started out as completely white, before his extremeties (the cooler body-parts) darkened with age. Since the first time Capper saw him, he was small, frail, blue eyed and white, he named him Snowflake. Snowflake Dapperpaws. Capper thinks it's a good name.

Snowflake grew up in Ponyville, and is about the same age as Crystal Corolla. He really admires his dad, and would pester Capper for stories of his life all the time. Capper was very unsure about what he was doing, and terrified that he'd do something to mess Snowflake up for life -he was a really devoted and present father. He was just starting to maybe relax just a little bit when Snowy was around six, when life hit him in the gut again with parenthood.

In this case, it was because one of the very few Abynissian couples living in Equestria suddenly passed away, leaving behind a newborn daughter. The Equestrian government wasn't sure what to do, as practically noone knew how to care for a newborn Abynissian. So they approached Capper and asked if he'd be willing to foster the baby, just until she was old enough to not need as intensive care. Capper hadbeen though this song and dance before with just taking a baby for a little while. So after talking it over with Snowflake, asked to just adopt her outright. Everyone was very relieved and immedietly agreed -after all, he had expereince taking care of baby Abynissians, he had a good job with a steady income, and glowing recommendations from all four pricnesses. So little Zenith Winddunes (now Zenith Winddunes-Dapperpaws) joined the family.

Capper did find it a bit strange at first to be honest -the Winddunes weren't famous by any strech, but they were leagues above the Dapperpaws on the social ladder. Add to that the kitten's almost perfect Abynissian coloration, and there was no way he'd be the one raising her is they were back in Abynissia.

Well, regardless of what her status might have been, little Zini was anything but high-class. She grew up into a loud, rambunctius little girl, who loves to hunt insects (and eat them), climb trees (and not be able to get down) and get covered in mud (and refuse to take a bath). She's just a one to two years younger than the apple twins, Mari and Cameo, so they're not in the same class -but since their aunt and her dad are friends, they often play together anyway. Cameo get's really upset when she eats bugs though, so she tries not to do that around him.

Snowflake instead grew up into an edgy young teen, who loves rock and roll, being a rebel and sticking it to the man… in his head at least. In actuality, he'd probably start crying if Capper ever got mad at him. He still loves his dad, and wants nothing more than to make him proud. The main reason he's trying so hard to be cool is because he wants to be just like Capper was when he was young, based on all the stories he's told Snowy. The one part that is completely genuine though, is his love for rock. He absolutely loves music, both listening and playing. His room is covered in posters from bands he likes, and he has an entire bookcase full of records. He plays in a band along with some friends, and they're convinced they're gonna be famous one day. Right now they just play in Cappers living-room, but it's still really fun.

Capper is their number one fan, and has a t-shirt with their band-logo on it he's almost worn out from waring it so much. Zenith complains a lot about the music and teases Snowy about it… but secretly really loves it and wants to join a band too someday, just to be as cool as her brother. Don't tell him she thinks that though, she takes her job as bratty kid sister very seriously.
