The castle doors swung open, an incredibly disgruntled Lychee coming through, a scowl across his face. Calls of his name followed behind him, and without hesitation he slammed the heavy doors shut.
In a quick move, he leaped down from the steps, landing gracefully, and pulling around the corner to the side of the castle, out of view from the entrance. He pursed his lips together, pricking his ears up as he listened carefully.
Another pony came bursting through the doors, calling his name out again and again
"Lychee? Lychee, cmon, get back here!"
Lychee remained incredibly still, not daring to move. The sound of wings fluttering reached his ears, and whoever had just come through the doors had taken off.
He sighed, relaxing from his position. Finally, no more nagging, and some peace and quiet-
"Hey."
Lychee yelped, swivelling around — just a metre or so away sat a pink unicorn mare, leaning against the wall, holding a cigarette. She took a long drag, letting out a large plume of smoke.
"Nice exit."
"…Thanks," Lychee stepped closer, sitting down next to her. The smell of the smoke hit his nose — pungent, far from pleasant in any way. He watched her continue to hold it, willingly taking another drag and exhaling it
"Guessing you got tired of the lectures too, huh?" she asked cooly.
Lychee looked at the ground, a painful frown on his face
"Yeah…."
"I swear, it's something about that family" The mare cleared her throat, putting on her best sing song voice "Oh, LUSTER! Friendship is VERY important! OOOH, LUSTER, don't roll your eyes like that!! OOohh, Luster, I wish you'd take these studies seriouslyso you can become just like me, a goody two shoes stick in the mud!"
Lychee snickered, rolling his eyes in mock annoyance. Her impression of Twilight was spot on.
"Sounds about right."
Luster took another drag from her cigarette, pulling out the pack from behind her, and gesturing towards Lychee
"You smoke?"
"No," he responded, taking one without hesitation. Luster lit it with a spark of magic.
Lychee sucked on it, breathing it in as best he could — before coughing and spluttering, gagging as smoke escaped his mouth in puffs.
"Yea, I can tell."
"S-Shut U-p."
Luster shrugged, "Don't take it so personal."
"I'll do what I w-want."
"Oof, tough guy aintcha?"
"Uhuh, I'm sure you will dude. Tell me — why are you here again?"
"Just because you're here for being a delinquent doesn't mean I am."
"delinquent? my god, you sure are tough."
"Says the mare smoking behind the princess' castle," — Lychee took another, more successful drag, and blew it directly into Luster's face — with only a little bit of coughing. Luster remained unphased.
"You got me there. Just remember who gave you the cigarette you're choking on, huh?"
Luster dropped the cigarette to the ground, stamping it out with her hoof. She stood up, stretching her hooves out.
"Well, this was fun and all, but I gotta get back inside if I don't want a whole other earful."
She turned to face him, extending a hoof "'Name's Luster Dawn."
"Didn't ask."
"Tch, okay dude. see you around."
and with that, Luster walked off. Lychee looked down at the ground, taking another drag on his cigarette — his lungs still burned, but it came in and out much smoother this time.
