Background/Personality

Valentina is the daughter of two prestigious, famously known unicorns- Rarity and Fleur De Lis. The supermodel and the clothing line designer crossed paths more than once, especially after Rarity started working in her Canterlot store more often. Fleur trying on Rarity's clothes turned into nights out together, which turned into date nights together, which quickly turned into a rushed, honeymoon phase marriage. They were, without a doubt, in love…

Fleur was having second thoughts. She did love Rarity, but she wondered if she loved her in such a way that meant spending the rest of her life with her. Rar didn't make it so easy, either. The younger unicorn was very energetic, almost too hyper, too keen on making sure Fleur still loved her. She was insecure, too, always trying to prove herself when she didn't really need to. It started to push Fleur away.

Not before they tried to have children, though. Rarity tried to guarantee their bond by convincing Fleur to take the gender-change spell. Fleur gave in, and while it only lasted for a single night, it was enough.

When Rarity was 2 months pregnant, Fleur left. The divorce was painful, long, and more than enough to make sure they'd never be on speaking terms again. When Rarity realized she was pregnant, she didn't call. She didn't write a letter or have someone go tell her- she kept it to herself, and to this day Fleur doesn't know she has a daughter with Rarity.

Shortly after, Rarity found comfort in her local shop owner, Donut Joe, who just seemed to really get her. He was good to her, and he genuinely cared about her. They settled down together, in what seemed to be a happy marriage… but Rarity was in for a long road of cheating, backstabbing, and lying. She loves all three of her kids, and her husband, but she never put them first.

Val lives her whole life believing she is the daughter of Donut Joe and Rarity. She's aware she barely resembles her father, but she's almost a clone of her Aunt Sweetie Belle, so she was never really suspicious about anything. Rar's lucky Fleur had a white coat.

Val didn't follow in her family's footsteps. She didn't become a famous model, fashion icon, or clothing designer. She always had an interest in sword fighting and video games. Rarity wasn't too proud, so she "very encouragingly" pushed Val in the direction of hairdressing. She's great at it, which is probably a given in the Belle genes, but she'd rather be designing cool, futuristic video games for the pony population. She does manage to sneak in her own interests, though- she sometimes volunteers as a fencing teacher after her hairdressing job.


Relationships

Val spent every moment with her younger sister Athena. Athena's special talent is knighting, much to Rarity's surprise, so the two sisters were pretty tomboyish and shared very similar interests. They gave each other tons of scratches and bite marks. Joe's secretly proud of his young fighters. They pretend they're not as close as they let on, but they're as close as sisters can be.

Val and Athena are much older than their brother Caramel (who they call Chai), and while Val does stop by to give her little bro some candies sometimes, they didn't really grow up together. She still loves the twerp and he's the best brother she ever could've gotten "stuck" with.

Val's relationship with Rarity is… tricky. She never felt like Rarity was her mom growing up. Donut Joe took up most of the parental role. Rar did try her best, and she loves her kids. But she made many, many mistakes, and they eventually started to pick up and leave a trail. She hated that Rarity pushed her into fashion careers and makeup-related summer camps. All she wanted to do was get mud on her fur, arrange beetles into patterns on the ground, and play her stupid video games.

Val doesn't have anything against her dad, Donut Joe. She loves his lame jokes and random love for swimming. She also loves that he was encouraging in what she wanted to do with her life. She loves the guy a lot, actually, more than she probably realizes. It'll be a huge punch when she finds out he's not even related to her.

Val was pretty close with Aunt Sweetie Belle growing up. They really bonded over how similar they looked, and took pictures together all the time. Once Val becomes an adult she doesn't see her as often, but Sweetie Belle will send her an occasional gift to let her know she's thinking of her.

Val has absolutely no connection with Fleur De Lis, her biological mother. Sure, she knows her name- the girl's a top model, after all, it's hard to miss her famous pink mane. She knows nothing else about her, though, not yet…


Special

- It seems to be a Rarity gene to be naturally good at anything fashion. Val despises her natural talent for hairdressing, even though she's been rated the best in Equestria.

- Her cutie mark is a sword that's all glitched up, which hints at her love for video games and her side job of fencing! She's great with a sword, in real life and on screen.

- Rarity's kids are probably the most disconnected from the rest of the Mane 6's kids. Applejack probably remains one of her closest friends despite everything, so she might have a small connection with them at the very least.

- Many years after Fleur chooses to leave Rarity, she marries her lifelong friend Sir Fancy Pants. They have one child together, which means Val has another sibling she doesn't even know about.
