Amethyst Star and Sugar Belle are sisters, with Amethyst being older than Sugar. Their birth names were Starshine Swirl and Sugar Swirl, but chose to go by different names later in life. Starshine changed her name when she moved to Ponyville, and Sugar changed her name when she moved away from home. They originally lived in Manehattan.
