Its true that Twilight was insanely excited to teach her child all of the wonders of both magic and friendship. She didn't exactly expect her little one to excel in one class, but…not so much in the other. While Twilight is Dawn Star's main teacher, she did have to approach it in a different way than initially planned. However, we're talking about Princess Twilight Sparkle here.

While she does hold Dawn to high standards in certain regards, she tries very hard to be as understanding as a mom should when it comes to magic. Sometimes it can be frustrating when she feels Dawn gets distracted with other things, like writing, when she should be practicing. Nevertheless, Twilight knows her princess throws her heart and soul into the effort she does make towards strengthening her skills, and she is always there with hugs and wise, gentle words of encouragement when things don't always go right.
