If you're curious what would have happened next, here are some direct quotes from the blog clarifying some things. (I’m not marking these as spoilers because the comic is over, but if you would rather not know and truly leave it off here, then scroll past the text below).

[Lilian] would eventually become a teacher in Queen Twilight's school in Canterlot.

Lilian ends up living with her Mom (who has a change of heart) and her grandfather in Canterlot and she's happy. She stays friends with Spike in preschool and reconnect with him when Spike returns to Canterlot years later. She's good at magic and eventually became a great teacher.
The same year Twilight and Spike moved back to Canterlot, Lilian would apply for her first job as a teacher and would bump into Spike after her job interview with Celestia, which would lead them to became friends once again.

Her mom left her unsupervised and Lilian bumped her head in a very unfortunate way, causing blindness. Violet blames herself for this.

Same reason why young girls get pregnant: she met a guy, fall in love and wasn't careful enough.

Violet was 16 when she had Lilian and the experience of being young and single made her bitter and resentful towards others. After she unwillingly caused an accident that damaged Lilian's eye, she convinced herself that she's a bad mother and that her own father — who was by that time recovering from a long illness — should adopt Lily.

To ease the separation, Violet tried to detach herself from Lilian, hoping the child will stop loving her and won't miss her.

At the end Twilight is able to reconnect the family and all ends well.

Few I recall right now: Lilian's grandfather (and Violet's dad); new teacher who bullied kids in preschool and most importantly Twilight's grand-grandfather (and Night Light's grandfather), an eccentric magic teacher that Twilight, Shiny and Spike went to visit in a hospital and who prophesied their destinies. His arc was meant to teach Spike a lesson in mortality.

If I remember correctly, her Mom left her and her Dad and moved away with a new family, this is why she was such a brat at first.
Two years later she and her Dad moved away to Manehattan, her Dad remarried happily; she went to school there and became a famous journalist in her adult life :)

There was supposed to be an arc where a substitute teacher bullies children and Spike in general and eventually Lilian and Cera get to work together to orchestrate an “escape” from school – and wondering around Canterlot with Spike in tow learn how to be friends.

The arc about her giving him rubies him for not calling her “mama” misfires and makes him frustrated and confused. They end up agreeing he’d call her however he likes and eventually as he grows older, he starts to call her “Twilight” more and more on his own and she doesn’t oppose it.

The final arc would be Twilight finally realizing that as a Mom, she needs to accept help for Spike's own good and receding most of her duties to her parents, Cadance and Celestia, thus having more energy and time to just play with him and read him to sleep instead of trying to be a full-time parent.

After all the heartbreak, mistakes and hard decisions Twilight finally understands that as his Mom, she should step back and let the adults to help her with Spike, thus letting her spend time with him on just on having fun or putting him to bed; still being a huge influence in his life but no longer being that one pony who disciplines him, potty trains him, looks after him, stays awake at night, dresses him for school or is rushing to pick him up etc — as other ponies step in to do it for her.

When she turns 18 he permanently returns into her care and others no longer play such an active part in his life.

The blog was meant to end in the present time — today it would take place in Canterlot shortly after season 9 finale — with Spike meeting Lilian and talking about their childhood. This would bring back some memories and he would later tease Twilight by calling her “mama”. To his surprise it would end up with her hugging him and apologizing for not being a great Mom all those years ago and him saying that he remembers being loved and cared for. That’s it.
