Today is the First Day of Summer, the Summer Solstice. And initially the Summer Sun Celebration. Now it's the Festival of the Two Sisters.

The sun rises over Equestria. But it does not rise by itself. It is raised and then it sets through the magic of the kingdom's greatest leader: the Princess of the Day, the wise, the all-good, the beautiful Princess Celestia! As the serene and helpful Princess Luna rules the night, the day is under the grace and care of her older sister. Trained by the legendary wizard, Starswirl the Bearded, with Luna to represent all the three pony tribes, they would rule Equestria uniting the formerly segregated and mistrusting pony nation by keeping them in peace and harmony for a thousand moons. With an attentive ear and an open heart, these make her the fairest and most understanding pony ever. Beautiful as a goddess and with a voice of an angel, heartwarming and comforting, she is the shining example to all her subjects, living her life in service to all in her kingdom. Celestia seems to be wise beyond her years, but in fact she is more than one thousand moons old! Her long flowing mane and tail are a majestic rainbow of pastel colors that gleam against her sleek light coat and graceful wings. Celestia's powerful magic has been second to none, but she used it only to maintain peace throughout Equestria (and also to raise the sun) — and her kindness, compassion, and concern for the well-being of all her subjects make her a beloved leader, if not Equestria's most beloved ruler and protector. But of course, she doesn't do it all. With her sister Luna at her side co-ruling Equestria with her, this proves one of her greatest abilities is knowing how to share the responsibility of ruling the realm. Her mentorship to young ponies gives her the greatest hope for Equestria's future, and she takes great pride in encouraging ponies to seek out new experiences in the pursuit of self-betterment. Her greatest success was appointing her most famous student and dearest friend, Twilight Sparkle, to study the Magic of Friendship, and, with her guidance, elevated her from a dedicated student of magic to a powerful protector of Equestria — and the Princess of Friendship. She always believed strongly in Twilight's potential and encouraged her to fulfill that. And through her former student's passion and belief in the strongest magic ever, Celestia is further inspired to seek peaceful resolutions to Equestria's most troublesome issues and build bridges for other nations throughout the world. She knew Twilight would be the perfect ruler in her and Luna's stead when the Two Sisters retired.


Unlike last year, I had the perfect idea for this pic, and got started at the start of the week. Since all of my MLP-themed holidays are going to be future-themed (except for new holidays like Tempest Day), I decided on featuring the retired Celestia living a peaceful life. Of course, she would still get letters from her faithful student, Princess Twilight Sparkle, and send them back to her. If you notice, the vector of Celestia I made for this tribute was traced from one of the episodes from the very first season. Like when Celestia would get the friendship reports from Twilight; her wings were traced from Griffon the Brush Off, and the rest of her, including the letter, was traced from Call of the Cutie. The only differences in this scene is that she no longer wears her royal regalia and she's reading at Shady Shoals, or at least on a nearby hill. Even though making Celestia's vector was moderately easy, especially since I already made a vector of her and thus the source for this one, the rest wasn't completely easy. For the first time, I created the magic auras from Photoshop CS6, instead of the CS4 on the iMac, and I had some difficulties. When making auras on CS4, I would use Pirill-Poveniy's Photoshop tutorial for Unicorn's Magic Glow, which was for CS4. When came across a spanner in the works, it was a good thing that Pirill-Poveniy also had the same tutorial for CS6. Thanks for the help. The background I had in mind is based on the flowery field in the season 2 finale. As for the sun and sky, I used the sun flare layers from my Sunset Shimmer Day pic in 2018. I have to admit, it really turned out to be one of my finest pieces of MLP art.

Even though "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" has come to a bittersweet end after 9 years, I will always love Celestia, even though Luna was my top favorite pony princess. What I will always love most about her is her immeasurable kindness, compassion, understanding, wisdom, open heart and mind, not to mention her cute sense of humor. Leaders like her are extremely rare to find in our world. She has always done good for her country and her subjects, encouraging ponies to seek out new experiences in the pursuit of self-betterment and betterment for all. Nicole Oliver's voice for the Princess of the Day has been absolutely angelic, representing her wise and loving character and heal even those who have suffered dark times, like PTSD, if you know who I'm referring to. ;) (Wink) For those who seek a mother figure, Celestia would make a wonderful choice, as her compassion and love would make them feel safe and cared. Equestria is truly blessed to have been ruled by such a great and legendary princess. It couldn't have asked for a better one, not to mention none could ask for a more esteemed pony to be embraced by the Brony community. And even though she and Luna have retired from royalty, Celestia will always be one of my most beloved princesses ever. Love Heart

I hope you all love this, as well as our beloved Princess Celestia. We will miss you and we will never forget you. Equestria thanks you for your benevolent reign and the love and harmony you brought. And the Brony community thanks you for being one of the best and most beloved ponies they ever had the pleasure of seeing and loving.
