For my shipping grid adoptables I was gonna post it yesterday evening, but we had a thunderstorm passing through (it's the midsummer weekend, so of course there was a storm) and I lost power for a while. So that was fun.
Anyway, the buyer asked for a regal, no-nonsense looking male unicorn, with white fur and four colored mane in long loose curls. So, that's what I did.
I decided to give him a beard, because I just really likes how it looks, and some different colored fetlocks to break up the white a bit. As for the mane, I went with really long and wavy, ending in curls. I just, really like how long manes look on ponies, so I grabbed the excuse I was given. However, since the buyer also mentioned that he'd be into sports such as polo or fencing, I also included a version with his mane and tail tied up as to not get in the way.
Color-wise, I tried several combinations -Celestia's genes provides quite a big selection to choose from. I eventually settled on this (Pink, Purple, Blue, Cyan) because I felt it both looked fitting for a Rarity (the dark purple and blue) and Celestia (the cyan, multi-colors and gradient effect) kid. I also liked the effect of the dark and light contrast of the cyan to the other colors
As for the names. "Rapier Dance" calls back to if his talent is fencing -Rapier being a type of slender sword, and then "Dance" because it sounds nice and brings to mind images of the type of fancy and intricate swordsplay you'd see in movies (that would probably get you killed irl). I also added "Aether" because of a few reasons. I wanted an option where he'd only have one, fancy sounding, name like his parents does. Now, Celestia is obviously a play on celestial -heavenly, godlike. And Aether is both the name of a greek primordial deity, and the name of the material medieval sience believed the universe above the terrestrial sphere was made of. So celestial material, sort of. The connection to Rarity's name is less obvious -but my thought was that, well, the were wrong. The "medieval scientists" that is -there is no aether, there is only nothing, a vacuum. So aether, should ponies believe in it, is the most rare substance they'd know of. Also, it sounds fancy and that's something Rarity would like =P
I hope you like him, and thank you for the support! :D
