1. Sandstone Pie wears the Pie family name quite proudly. Growing up on the rock farm, Sandy, of course, has a deep appreciation for the earth around her. Along with her cousin, Iron Forge, they have spent many a day in the badlands amongst the pebbles and boulders. The atmosphere of the farm, and the family overall, is quite different than when her mother was a filly. Gone are the days of absolute somber work, the absence of smiles and laughter, and the chores of the home weren't as…rigorous at such early ages (Igneous isn't exactly agreeable, but an old stallion wants to keep his family together). Sandy enjoys hanging with her mother, Limestone, in the fields.

It was here that she discovered an incredibly strange, symmetrical shape in the rocks before her. With a small tap of the hoof, Limestone pulls forward a real, genuine fossil. As she stares at the piece of history, right before her very eyes, she notices it looks almost like a sea creature. Limestone explains that, millions of years before ponies walked this earth, the farm was covered with a deep ocean, where creatures unlike any pony could imagine roamed…and were sometimes discovered here and now. That conversation sparked a ravenous wildfire within her daughter that wasn't to be extinguished anytime soon…

2. "Ugh, look at this diction. This prose is absolute garbage. The point they're trying to get across is completely skewed by the sentence structure. Who in the world wrote this?"

"That's a letter from my publisher, Sandy."

"Ya gotta start shopping around, Dad."

Sandy does adore her nerdy, snarky father as well. Finding the peace he was looking for to complete his novel on the rock farm, Quibble Pants has, (probably not) surprisingly, fit in well with his wife's wacky family. From there, he has been published several times over. His love of story and literature was certainly picked up by Sandstone, who was reading textbooks about dinosaurs and pronouncing impossibly long names from an incredibly early age (seriously, how the heck do you pronounce Micropachyrhinosaurex anyway?!). As she gets older, she even takes to editing parts of her father's stories — though she is known to be rather iron-hoofed about the matter.

It goes without saying, Sandy has a deep adoration for the Daring Do series, and eagerly awaits each new release of its sequel series, Bold Spirit (about, of course, Daring Do's adventurous brother).

3-4. Ever since that day in the field with her mother, Sandstone has kept a sharp eye out for any change in shape or texture of the rocks, or that one distinct layer that holds the jackpot of fossils. As she grows up, her deep adoration (somewhat obsession) of paleontology and dinosaurs never wavers. Sometimes, its all this gal can talk about. She devours any news on the geological front when new discoveries are made, or a new display is being erected at the Canterlot Museum of History and Science, or there is a new dig site. Its her absolute dream to become a real paleontologist, to go out on the dig sites and extract the pieces of history that haven't seen the light for millions of years. The rush of pride and wonder at looking over the fossil that no creature has seen for more than a millennia makes Sandy want more.

She can jabber on and on for hours to pretty much anycreature who will listen with somewhat non-reluctance about her passions. However, she does have quite a few friends who encourage her talents and have even asked her for help when a strange rock has been discovered in Chrysanthemum's flower bed. Sandy knows, one day, she'll be out there, in the desert, with the hot sun burning her neck, while she ever so carefully brushes away the dust from the world's most-complete Velcitalsaurus ever discovered.
