These are my ideas for the Next Generation of MLP taking place after the events of the show. Please note there are a lot of my head-canons and some of my personal ships/preferred ships. Please be respectful of my opinions :) (Smile) Additionally, I am not at all caught up with the current seasons at this time so there won't be references to them until I watch the episodes!

I couldn't think of a cutiemark, and since her wiNGS are so damn BIG that they cover her flank, I felt like I could post this for now w/o a CM design.

DIS IS Garnet Asterism (look up Asterism in gems, it cool). She's the other foalhood friend of Athena that I mentioned in Silver Marks' bio.

Garnet is a big mare with huggee wings. Her wingspan always made Athena terribly jealous when they were younger, but even though Athena wasn't always nice to Garnet, Garnet wasn't deterred. You see, Garnet is a protective pony at heart. Daughter of a great guard pony, she earned her cutiemark at a very young age after she saved baby Athena from falling to her death. She, only a year older than Athena, was struck with an overwhelming sense to protect the young princess with her life.

Which is pretty intense for a little kid, and may have started out as something parents go 'awww' to, but her loyalty to the princess, and the rest of Athena's family, never wavered as she got older. Her special talent is to serve and protect. And maybe getting her cutiemark so young is what birthed this strong bond she feels to Athena.

Honestly, it's a little weird. But her intentions are pure and although she lived in the crystal empire with her parents, she still got to see Athena and Silver Marks often in their foalhood (since Twilight loves to visit Princess Cadence, and Garnet's mother travels to Ponyville for work often.) She acted as an unofficial bodyguard to her friends, and Athena's siblings, whenever they were all together. When she was old enough, she moved to Ponyville to become a squire in Twilight's castle. Through hard work and dedication she quickly moved up to guard position, and then with the permission of Athena and her parents, they made her part of the royal guard; specifically Athena's personal guard.

Garnet is sometimes scouted by flight squads, even the Wonderbolts have come knocking on her door, but she remains steadfast in her duty as a royal guard.

Personality wise, Garnet is patient and composed. Though she has an impressive presence, she's learned how to make herself seem unassuming, as to better protect her charge. She seems like she would be cold and aloof, but she feels deeply. Her empathy is nearly boundless and she cares far more for others than she does herself. Despite her calm and put together demeanor, she is full of insecurities. Though rather than her insecurities making her shy and awkward, they manifest in her lack of self-worth.

She is self-sacrificing to a fault, and she does not hold her own happiness or safety over that of the ones she has sworn to protect. This is what makes her an excellent guard, and luckily she genuinely enjoys protecting others. But she is far to quick to assume that a tiny mistake makes her worthless in the eyes of others and she is reluctant to unbottle her emotions or talk about herself to her friends who want to help her.

Garnet knows others care for her, but projects her own high expectations of herself onto others, and so she fears letting them down even if they've made it clear they don't mind or that it's 'okay'.

As I mentioned, Garnet is from the crystal empire but she is not a full-blooded crystal pony. Her mother is a crystal pony but her father is a pegasus. She appears as a pegasus for all intents and purposes outside of the Crystal Empire, but when she is within its walls, the power of the Crystal Heart brings out the crystal pony in her blood and she can appear as a crystal pegasus pony. In my head canon, all full-blooded crystal ponies can show their crystal forms anywhere. Normal ponies can also gain this form, but only during special celebration when Princess Cadence activates the Crystal Heart (or whatever they do LOL). Being a half crystal pony, Garnet can only use the crystal form when she is in the Empire, however she can use it year round when in the Empire as opposed to only being able to use it during special times. In the Empire, Garnet also displays the 'unactivated' crystal pony attributes- hexagonal eye shine and an even shinier mane.

And for the cherry on top, her mother is an unnamed background crystal pony character (I'll draw her sometime for a headcanon thing) and her father is Flash Sentry.

Flash Sentry is a royal guard in the Crystal Empire and he was very supportive of Garnet's dream of becoming a royal guard too. He must admit he had hoped Garnet would be a guard at the Crystal Empire like him, but he's happy that she's happy.

Garnet is an only sibling :) and iM GONNA TRY TO STICK TO THAT LOL
