Many late nights for Pinkie lately were full of deep thinking and soft sadness. However, this late night she walked on the outskirts of Ponyville close to the hills. She sighed discontently. She wanted to be happy for Twilight and Tempest on their relationship. But knowing how she felt towards both of the mares made it extremely hard to do. Between Tempest's soft embarassed blush when she baked with Pinkie or the muscles that very obviously showed when she went to reach for somethin or her calming but rough voice and her gorgeous dark coat- it was very hard to not fall for the tall unicorn. But then there was Twilight- tall, elegant, graceful- horsecocky. Twilight was short for a princess, akward, and clumsy at times. But Celestia forbid she didn't love it when Twilight gave her very serious speeches and her eyes shined with that brightness. Or the adorable way she would ramble on for hours about things Pinkie didn't have the slightest clue about understanding. She couldn't help but be infatuated with the purple mare from the first day they met. Which is why she had a hard time deciding whether she was happy or upset at the Friendship Festival seeing the two glance and blush at eachother. Pinkie grew up in a household where emotion was showed little to none. However, she had gotten so familiar with those looks after all the parties she'd thrown for happy couples in Ponyville over the years. She was happy for them truly, but..heartbroken. Pinkie had no idea what to do. A cold feeling fell on her muzzle and she was brought out of her shock. She gazed upwards to see a fluffy pink clouds with soft drops of chocolate rain. A crimson tail sagged over the edge.
"Discord?" Pinkie Pie questioned with obvious confusion. She received no response, so instead, trotted ahead to gaze at the male creature from a farther distance. She glaced at him with a puzzled look. He looked so sad. Which was strange by Discord's standards. The only time he ever frowned was when he was frustrated, jelous, being fececious or…Fluttershy was upset with him. A thought clicked in Pinkie's head as she walked back slowly. "Discord. I can tell you're upset. You're mopin around doing your sad-Discord-y thingy. Did something happen with Fluttershy?" The draconequus glared down at the pink mare in visible annoyance. Which was also strange, as him and Pinkie more than often got along.
"Why do you care, Pinkamena." Discord snarled. But his anger sounded more empty and depressed to her. Pinkie was too much of an expert of emotions at this point for her own good, so she sat flat on the ground, steading herself for a conversation.
"Because…I think I'm feeling about the same way you are right now. I'm not sure, of course but…feeling the way I feel…it sucks. And maybe..it wouldn't suck if I didn't have to feel like that alone? I just thought maybe you'd want someone to talk to. I know I'm not her and I know we aren't very close friends but..I thought maybe…some company might make you feel better?" He looked away, and Pinkie couldn't tell if she had upset him with the words or if he was thinking. Perhaps something lightheartded was needed. "Besides..last thing Equestria needs is a cray-cray Discord again because his emotions are out of wack. Ha-ha! Ha. Ha.." Pinkie trailed off, her plastered smile fading. She glanced down at the lake in front of her, shocked when she heard the sound of wind rushing by and feeling a warm body beside her.
"I…apologize. I tried to..do something tonight. I thought..I told Fluttershy how I felt. I thought..I thought she felt the same way but..I was wrong. I'm not entirely sure how to feel right about now. She was the only pony in Equestria who accepted me for who I was. Who helped me. Her and Celestia but..Fluttershy cared about me. I clearly thought it was a different kind of care.." Discord trailed off, looking away at the lake, seemingly disgusted by his reflection.
"I'm…sorta with you there, ha. Tempest and Twilight are together now and I like them both but..who could like an idiot like me?" Pinkie scoffed, shoveling a rock away at the dirt.
"And who could love a freak like me?" Discord added, his voice cold and hurt. Pinkie looked at him, the gears in her brain turning. She shouldn't. She really, really shouldn't. But she was sp lonely, and..so was he. She placed a pink hoof upon his paw.
"Would you mind if I…we went back to your place for a bit?" Pinkie blushed with a smile that did not reach her eyes. Discord's face flushed momentarily before his ears dropped in realization. He seemed to think for a moment, looking back at her with concern.
"Are you sure? It might be a mistake, Pinkie Pie." He asked, genuine. Maybe had Pinkie fallen for Discord in another world- she might've just said screw it and went out with Discord. But she couldn't do that. Not now. Not with how she felt for them.
"I think we need a mistake tonight." It was to be a night of regrets that both would chose to forget.
