Reports continue to flood in from all across Equestria. This is the most contagious disease I have ever witnessed. It is 100% communicable; any fluid to fluid contact will spread whatever is causing this with an absolute guarantee of infection. Airborne is also a definite possibility: it would explain the rapid and uncontrolled spread of this disease.

From what I can tell, only pegasi and unicorns are affected by the outbreak. By virtue of lacking horns and wings, it seems earth ponies such as myself are immune to the disease. No word of the effects on alicorns. All pegasi and unicorns in the hospital, including those on staff, have been quarantined while any and all earth ponies who are able have been put to work within the hospital. Nopony will be allowed to leave the hospital, as I cannot confirm that earth ponies are immune.

My fears have come true. This morning I found that I was suffering the symptoms of the disease. It would appear earth ponies are vectors of the disease: fully capable of carrying and spreading it, but simply lacking the appendages that would suffer the mutagenic effects. As far as I can tell, this disease is definitely airborne. Almost all of the staff are now exhibiting symptoms.

I was able to work with an infected pegasus from the start of the earliest stages of the infection:
Hour 1: Subject suffered mild body aches, decreased blood pressure, and dizziness.
Hour 2: First onset of physical mutagenic affects in the wing: digits began to buckle and reshape. Subject suffered extreme thirst and repeatedly asked for water.
Hour 3: Wrist, ulna, and radius of bone structure underwent a violent physical change; digits cracked and split into smaller more complex bone structures.
Hour 4: Patient entered a severe state of unresponsive delirium and suffered body tremors. Reshaped wing moulted and lost all of it's feathers.
Hour 5: Patient completely lost consciousness. Fur quickly began to grow in place of the moulted feathers. Bone structure ceased mutating.
Hour 6: Patient re-awakened but remained unresponsive, and began subconsciously moving reshaped appendage.
Hour 7: Patient regained consciousness and entered a state of panic; Had to be restrained.

An infected unicorn admitted herself to the hospital and I was able to monitor the mutation. It was a truly disgusting sight; I could not even bring myself to transcribe the effects into this journal. The number of patients admitted to the hospital have slowed. Judging by the communicability of this disease and the close-nit populations, it would be safe to assume all of Ponyville and Canterlot have been infected. Rural communities may have faired better and managed to contain the virus.

This will be my last journal entry. Word made it to the hospital that Cloudsdale has been completely destroyed with very few survivors. Morale in the hospital is low, and numerous infectees had to be restrained to keep them from committing suicide. As I sit here and think, I wonder how such a thing could befall this great nation. In my heart I know my wife and child are infected, but all I can do is sit here and pray that, by some amazing coincidence, they are okay.

Primrose, Sugar Plum, please forgive me for not being there when you needed me.
