With cookies devoured and tales exchanged from each other, Spike and Sharp turned in for the night. Spike laid out on his sleeping pad, while Sharp, used to the regional conditions, had his bed of moss.
He laid resting pondering the what information Spike could gather from Sharp. Most of the dragons had vacated the ridge, so it would be pointless to go further in. Spike was a little disappointed, thinking that his impromptu vacation could lead him to meet more of his kind, but meeting one was more than he had hoped for.
Add to that, where did the missing dragons go? And what was up with the Spiral Mountain and the green glowing lava Sharp talked about? He thought it would be neat if he could turn his short vacation into a quest to discover the answers to those questions, just like his adventure story books! But its not like he knew where to start, he didnt even know how to get to this Spiral Mountain. And what would he do when he got there? If a group of older dragons didnt come back from investigating, how would he stand a chance? He could ask Sharp for help, since he seemed to know a lot about it, but Sharp was just on his way getting out of there.
Sharp was an odd one, Spike thought. Sure full grown dragons were normally solitary creatures, but younger dragons grouped together safety, so he thought it was odd that Sharp was on his own. Had his squad abandoned him? Was that why he was so eager to be friends with Spike? Yet after the initial conversation when Sharp explained the disappearance of the dragons from the ridge, Spike was doing most of the talking; about his life as an assistant to a royal princess, his life among ponies, even stories he read in the library.
Most questions Spike asked Sharp himself, were either deflected or given short answers. Like how despite having wings, they werent developed enough to allow him to fly. His fire breath was just that, fire breath, good for starting fires, not for delivering messages. He wasnt very good at finding gems or digging, but was pretty quick on his feet. He gave thought to the idea that when he woke up, hed be alone in an empty cave, possessions gone, but if Sharp were a thief, would he go through the trouble of being friendly? Spike was taught to give the benefit of the doubt, so he gave Sharp a chance, which helped him fall asleep much easier.
Not that hed be sleeping for long, as hed be stirred from his sleep from what seemed like frantic rustling and Sharp talking to him in a urgent hushed shout, Spike! Get Up!
Spike turned up to see what Sharp was going on about, Were out of cookies so, but Spike couldnt finish that thought. A green glow had caught his attention and he turned his gaze to see what it was coming from.
"AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" they yelled in unison, at the source of the green glow.
