"Oh cool, more dragons," Mangle replied optimistically, "Itll be nice to have company living out the rest of our lives as slaves."
It began to slowly build in Spikes mind the magnitude of his situation, Slavesthe rest of our lives? he started to nervously question. He started fidgeting and shaking.
"Well, maybe not our whole lives" Mangle tried to reassure Spike with a friendly pat on the shoulder.
"I cant be a slave!" Spike exclaimed. Spike had hit his breaking point and began panicking, questioning and talking to himself about how dumb he was for thinking this was ever a good idea. "Why didnt I just stay home?" he began to mutter to himself, "Why didnt I just leave when Sharp told me too? Even when we were attacked and survived, I just had to press my luck.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down, whatre you talking about," Mangle tried to understand why Spike had panicked so suddenly.
"Im just the stupidest, most dumbest, dumb dragon there ever was!" Spike exclaimed to Mangle and started ranting to him. "I just had to go on an adventure; I had to find out what was behind the disappearing dragons, I had to be the hero and go on a quest with whoever cared to help me." A realization hit him, and my friends got dragged into this as well, they trusted me to know what I was doing and look what Ive done, gotten them captured and turned into slaves. Sharp warned me that I shouldve just run away when we had the chance. I let Magma down, what kind of friend gets a friend enslaved? Snort trusted me, we were supposed to stick together, and now were not! Its all my fault!
At that last outburst, Mangle gave Spike a good hard slap across the face. "PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER!" Mangle yelled at Spike, STOP BLAIMING YOURSELF IT WONT CHANGE WHAT HAPPENED!
Spike looked back at him, shocked and depressed. He had stopped ranting and looked to Mangle as if asking for sympathy. Mangle found himself shocked at his own outburst, as if hed never done something like that before, and he hadnt. "Heh hehsorry about that, but it worked for me, so I figure it might work for you. Was it too much? he was unsure if that answer was enough to justify his actions.
Spike sniffled a bit, after calming down a bit, Nah, that helped, I think, Spike said relaxing his breathing a bit. "Worked for you?" he asked.
"Wellyou reminded me a lot of how I reacted right after I woke up in chains." Mangle began to explain, "See, I was on night watch for my group the night we got captured. We had heard of the dragon disappearances and we didnt want to be taken by surprise, and it was my shift. Well, I wasnt a very good watcher since I didnt notice we were surrounded. We tried to fight them off, but they wouldnt stay down, and we were knocked out. Cue me panicking and apologizing to my older brother once we were down here, and he did that same thing to me. Mangle rubbed his hands together unsurely. "I blamed myself for letting us get surrounded, and getting all of us captured, but by bro told me that blaming myself doesnt do us any good, and that its more important to keep a cool head or else well never get out of here."
