Sunset is a spell-caster in the Celestial guard in this universe, as such her armor is lighter, more ornamental than practical. Unicorns in this group depend on the work of the more heavily armored Shieldmares to protect them as they weave offensive spells against the enemy.

During Celestia's war with Nightmare Moon, Sunset stood out among the rest of her class at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. Due to her innate proficiency in magic, Sunset gained the privilege to learn under Celestia herself, quickly becoming Celestia's most favorite and faithful student. Sunset's ambitions stretch farther, though, and she is driven to destroy her enemies wherever they may lie, and which ever side they may fight for.
