Atlas is a character that I originally came up with for a story I was going to write revolving around an assassination attempt on Twilight Sparkle by a gryphon from the future. He has to keep her alive until she does what ever it is she's supposed to do, or not only will she die, but the world will be destroyed. On top of that he knows he dies at the end of his mission no matter what, because the warning message from the future told him so.

The story had a lot of stuff about the theory of time travel, and how because they don't know if he succeeds or not, there's a chance. But because they know he dies there's no preventing it, because anything they do to prevent it would mean the message he dies won't be sent back, thus altering the timeline so they don't do whatever it is they do to prevent his death.

I chose Atlas as the name because he is basically carrying the weight of the world, and before he was a guard he was an airship navigator and cartographer.

I don't know if I'll ever write this story, I've started it but I have so many ideas floating around I don't ever seem to focus on one.
