Spikes Quest — Chapter 6: [134]

Kitoith had led Spike up several flights of stairs, in Spikes opinion, way too many flights of stairs. Kitoith ended up carrying him up the last couple of flights till they made it to the peak. There was a large stone dome on the summit of the mountain, most likely carved from the mountain peak. Kitoith led Spike inside, through a large opening in the domes wall. The inside of the dome was an amphitheater, carved stone benches ringed around a center stage. This is where the council meets, Kitoith gestured, and if we head on top of the dome, theres something else. Kitoith motioned Spike to follow her outside.
To Spikes chagrin, there were more stairs, heading up the side of the dome. The two dragons reached the top of the dome, the summit of the mountain, with the sun shining down on them and the wind breezing agains their scales. There was a fire pit at the center, and a pile of rocks next to it.
This is our beacon, she said, indicating the very bland hole in the ground. Not very impressive, I know, but used in combination with these special stones. She picked up a few large stones from the pile nearby and threw them in the pit before she threw in a sapphire she had saved from the breakfast flapjacks. We call them Sunlight Stones. Youll see why. Now, we apply one fire breath Kitoith blew a blaze of fire into the fire pit, and Spike jumped back as a bright blue fire erupted upward out of the pit and shot into the sky with a blinding blue light. Spike looked closer at the fire pit, the Sunlight Stones were emitting the blue light, he could only assume the color was coming from the sapphire. Spike stood in awe of the exotic magic he had witnessed. Kitoith spoke up. Sunlight rocks are great for light, not so much heat, but with enough of them we can make these beacons. Blue is code for lets meet so hopefully within the next few days, council members from different clan will come here to debate our course of action.
Spike looked at the older dragon. What would be your course of action?
Kitoith looked down at him. Me? Id storm the mountain, roast every diamond dog Id find, rescue the captured dragons, and be back and have a huge feast.
What about their magic? Spike asked concerned.
Of course I wouldnt do it with the five here, Id want as much back up as possible, so the more the better. So many that well overwhelm them before they can do any of that hocus pocus.
Spike chuckled about how drastically different Kitoith was as a leader than what he was used to. So much more aggressive and, well, dragon-y. If she were more like the ponies Spike knew, they would try something more like, he didnt know, try to broker a truce with the dragons or recon them days to find an opening for a sneak attack. Not just charge right in with an army and flambe every canine who opposed them.
But not Kitoith. Maybe Spike shouldnt consider it so unusually, but he knew that Barius had one heck of a mother.
