Violet Recluse is an ancient and venerable noble who's family is one of the most storied in Canterlot. Their name is well-deserved, as the Recluse family rarely shows itself outside of their ancestral home on the outskirts of the Equestrian capital. Violet has not been seen outside of the mansion's grounds in decades, though the occasional glimpse caught of her sulking across the grounds paints a seemingly dire picture of her health.
In reality, Violet is simply an example of a vampiric Unicorn. The afflicted of her race gain great magical power that increases as they age, but comes with the great cost of them slowly losing their minds. Unlike the glamor of the Earth Ponies or the illusory power of the Pegasi, Unicorns lack the ability to conceal their infected state from others, and as a result frequently remain behind the scenes, working through thralls and magically enslaved agents placed among the population. Their immense power makes them an asset to their vampire brethren, but their eventual madness causes their kin to maintain a constant vigil over them.
