Something from the old Journey of the Spark Tumblr page.
In the final draft of Journey of the Spark, Celestia wanted Twilight to be the new Archmage of Canterlot and planned to give her a locket as a gift. The locket was essentially a test to prove that Twilight was worthy of the title.
