After helping out Dawn with his Father, The Pony of Shadows, Dawn pretty much was able to live his life sort of speak. But he couldn't exactly live somewhere that involved others judging him, so AJ allowed Dawn to live on the farm. So Dawn helped out the family, kept Timber wolves away and plucked apples etc, much much time later the two decided to try dating and it worked out.
