Spikes Quest — Chapter 6: [136][137]
"That enchanted items do exist, my research isnt dumb and in vain!" Barius smiled wide as he reveled in the fact that his past years of study could be fruitful.
Um, what? Sharp asked.
Snort had woken up while Barius was busy being overjoyed, Hey guys, crazy party last night, huh? I wished I had made more pie. He made a drowsy grin, as Sharp paid no attention.
Yeah yeah, wait you know what those things the diamond dogs had were? Enchanted, is what they are? Sharp asked.
Yes, and now it all makes sense! Barius exclaimed. He got up and ran to his worktable and pulled out some scrolls. He ran to his chest, opened it, and grabbed a handful up gems. He pulled out a worn quill and old mostly dry ink bottle and started drawing on a rolled out scroll intently. Sharp sat in befuddlement as this white dragon had become more active and excited than hed ever let on being.
Um, mind explaining what makes sense? Sharp asked.
I had been trying to enchant items for myself, but they were always really weak or unnoticeable, that they couldnt even be considered enchantments. I thought it was just putting magic in an item using a rune to guide the magic in properly, but maybe it requires something in between to transfer the magical energy, like gemstones. So if I do this, and this Barius went to sketching out a simple rune and placing a gemstone in the middle of it. He took a deep breath and exhaled a small burst of fire breath onto the parchment. It didnt look like anything had changed, the gemstone looked like gemstone still.
Sharp got up to the worktable to examine the gem closer, What exactly did you do?
See, by infusing the gems with magic, I can create even more complicated runes, and more evenly adjust how much magic I can put into each item. See, before what I was doing was just basically coating the items in magic, which is why none of my attempts before were making anything impressive.
Snort had also joined the two at the table, now fully awake. Sharp was struggling to follow Barius explanation, but Snort only saw that there were a handful of gems on the table. Hey you mind if I have one? he said grabbing the smallest yellow one, it wouldve been rude to grab the biggest he figured.
