Cy was originally supposed to be a princess, but she was snatched away at birth by an evil deity and was corrupted and changed, losing her wings and horn but not the immense powers of alicornhood. Eclipsa wouldn't see her child for hundreds upon thousands of years, but her motherly instincts told her that she was out there somewhere in the universe, giving her a glimmer of hope that one day she'll return to the place she was born.
