Seriously though, something tells me this movie used to be a lot funnier.
This doesnt mean there arent good things in it. Steve Martin is superb in his delivery and performance, and there are some scenes that still get a giggle out of me, like when Steve Martin thinks the brain of his loved one is inside a gorilla.
But there are many other elements that fall flat, and are somewhat cringe-worthy (the boat scene especially comes to mind) and towards the end it deranges into a fest of slapstick that is very hit and miss. Im sure that works for many of you, its just not my cup of tea.
It might not aged very well, but its definitely not a bad movie (Ive heard its gaining kind of a cult following nowadays). If you are a fan of Steve Martin and want to see one of his early movies, I can definitely recommend it.
And now, if you excuse me, I should tend to my new friend. I wonder if I should fear for the safety of my own brain now.
