“Time to start, my little ponies,” Cheerilee called, garnering the class’ attention. “We’ve had a good first week of school, so I thought we could spend our Friday afternoon doing our show and tell. I hope you all remembered to bring something interesting. Would anypony like to go first?”
About a third of the hooves in the class went up. Cheerilee pretended not to notice the few students with looks of panic on their faces rifling through their desks for an impromptu show and tell object. She picked one of the more exuberant hooves.
“Dinky. Why don’t you go? And remember everypony, we do have a few new students, so be sure to introduce yourselves.”
The lavender unicorn took her place at the front of the class, holding up a photograph.
“Hi! My name’s Dinky,” she began. “This is a picture of my family.”
The filly pointed to a unicorn stallion towards the middle of the picture. “That’s my daddy. His name is Written Script. And this is my first mommy,” she said, pointing to a frame she herself was holding in the photograph. “Her name is Forsythia.”
“When my daddy and mommy wanted to have a baby, they couldn’t and it made them really sad.”
She pointed to a grey pegasus mare next to her father. “This is my aunt Derpy. She’s a mailmare and she’s a really good friend of my daddy. When my daddy and my mommy couldn’t have a baby, they asked her to help. They had a doctor put the ingredients to make a baby in her tummy, since they couldn’t put it in my mommy’s tummy.”
“I grew in Derpy’s tummy and when I was born, she gave me to my mommy and daddy. So, she’s my birth mom and Forsythia is my bio…bi-o-lo-gi-cal mom. I have a hard time remembering my mom, but daddy says she was really pretty and she loved me a lot. He thinks I look a lot like her.”
Next, Dinky pointed to a yellow earth pony and then a filly in front of her. “This is Golden Harvest, but I call her Carrot. She and my dad are getting married and she’s going to be my new mom. I’m gonna be the flower filly at the wedding and so is Noi. She’s Carrot’s daughter and when Carrot marries my daddy, she’s going to be my little sister ‘cause I’m older than her.”
“I get to be a flower filly too!” Noi shouted excitedly from her seat.
Dinky pointed to the pony on the other side of her from Noi in photograph. “This is Amethyst Star. When we moved to Ponyville, she was my reading buddy and then she was my babysitter. We do the Sisterhooves Social every year, so she’s my big sister now.”
“And this is Dr. Hooves. He’s Derpy’s special somepony. He has a lot of cool stuff in his workshop and he teaches Noi and me all kinds of science stuff and shows us how to make things. When I grow up, I want to make cool things like he does.”
“Most of my friends only have one mommy and daddy, but I’m lucky because I have so many. Our family’s weird, but I love them all. I have the greatest family in Equestria.”

Figured I would finally explain the Hooves/Doo/Script/Top Family to get the new year started off right.
Sparkler being Dinky's reading buddy was added in as I was writing this. I was a big buddy myself my senior year of high school and it seemed like a good way for their relationship to start.
Written and Carrot will probably go on to have more children, as will Derpy and Doc Hooves after they get married. As I've already explained, Dinky and Noi grow up to be inventors, using their respective talents in magic and creativity to make devices that make ponies' lives easier.
I think the only thing I forgot is who Noi's father is. (Here's a hint: Noi inherited her father's big smile, his outgoing and excitable nature, and his hair.)
