Some like the mechanical complexities and variance, the same joy as building or watching a complex piece of machinery working. Some like the power fantasy, or the escapism, being something else for a little while. Some like the intrigue and drama, exploring situations whose consequences would be far more painful in real life, but are tolerable in the theatre of the mind.

And some people just enjoy spending time with loved ones, be they friends or something more.
