For those who read Pinetree’s and Eclipse’s bios, you might remember the tidbits that talked about their relationship with Zecora. Well, I happened to be coming up dry on what I should work on next when I suddenly remembered this spinoff idea. One thing lead to another until here I am, tired and really dehydrated but with a completed doodle dump of this little side story.

This actually took me a lot of time to do; time I should have spent being more productive, but when your inner artist tells you to draw Zecora and the Twins doodles, then you gotta draw Zecora and the Twins doodles.




1. After a little ‘accident’ in the Everfree forest, a surprise meeting with a certain Zebra, and a trip to her bizarre hut filled with weird-looking masks and jars full of bubbeling liquids, Pinetree gets it into his head that he wants to learn how to brew potions and somehow manages to convince Zecora to take him on as an apprentice of sorts. Zecora herself was rather impressed by the colts interest and zeal for her work and was more than eager to impart her knowledge, wisdom, and talents to the ambitious colt.

Pinetree went once a week or two for any lessons Zecora had to teach him at the moment, and becuase of his quick wit and back for learning quickly, he easily sped through them- so quickly in fact, that Zecora had a hard time keeping up with him. But despite being a fast learner, Pinetree was not the best listener, which led to many and easily avoidable mistakes. Only the astounding patience of Zecora enabled Pinetree to continue his lessons, otherwise he would have been banned from her hut after the third time he melted a hole in her wall with his acid bombs.


2. Eclipse on the other hoof, was not nearly so great a hassle as his twin. Occasionally, the colt would attend his brother’s lessons out of curiosity, but would get easily distracted by all the artifacts and history books that Zecora had around the hut. One fine day, a strange, Zebrican instrument caught his eye and even though he had never considered playing an instrument in his life, once he heard the deep and moving music it made, he knew he had to learn it. Even with her busy schedule, Zecora still found time to teach Eclipse the Sitar. He wasn’t nearly so quick to learn as his twin, but he eventually learned to the point where he could play amateurly enough with Zecora, and the two enjoy spending several hours together playing the folk tunes that the Zebra grew up with.


3. This is what happens when you take two young, boyish pranksters into your life, Zecora. It was bound to happen at some point. Just be glad the masks weren’t damaged in the end.

And yes, Twilight did in fact make the two write Zecora a very long and deeply regretful ‘ I’m-sorry-we-broke-into-your-hut-and-took-your-masks-without-asking’ apology letter.


4. Just because Zecora puts up with Pinetree’s impulsive tendency to leap before he looks which inevitably cause many of his little ‘accidents’, doesn’t mean she sweeps such events under the rug. Actions have consequences, you know. Luckily for Twilight, Zecora’s the kind of Zebra that doesn’t hold grudges.


5. When everything’s not chaos and overflowing cauldrons, the three have their occasional peaceful moments. Most of the time, those moments occur when Zecora attempts to teach the colts her relaxing ritual of meditation and tell them about how they can focus in one their inner self and some other tribalistic stuff. Pinetree and Eclipse don’t understand most of it, but they enjoy the sweet incense and watching as Zecora slowly slips into deep ̶s̶l̶e̶e̶p̶ meditation. Sometimes, if they wait long enough, she’ll be so into it that the two can slip quietly into her cupboards and sneak in a couple of her foreign, odd tasting treats before she wakes up.


I’ve got some more idea in mind, but I’ll save them for later. By no means should you assume I’m done with this idea, trust me. You’ll be seeing plenty more of this in the future.
