Head Guard for the Celestial army by the time Princess Twilight had come to her own and became the permanent third ruler of the empire. Blackwind is known for a rather rare talent with magic his massive shields able to encompass the city an ability he shares with the previous head guard Shining armor. This is the only similarity the two seem to have however as Blackwind is known for being both a fierce warrior and also a stern leader. He keeps very few other ponies close prefering to lead by example rather than thru friendship. He is an interesting figure within the royal court as he often managed to attract the attention of many young mares yet never seems to entertain any of them. It's whispered that he may prefer stallions because of this.

Because of his powerful magic and broken horn he has been studied at length by the princess of magic Twilight. Her ultimate theory about his skills is that had his horn not been broken he would be on par with some of the worlds most powerful spell casters. This is as he states due to his lineage to witch his mother was a powerful Ki-lin. A species of Pony Highly adept at magic but who often find themselves in reclusive groups of there own kind. Thru her study Twilight was able to ascertain that the Ki-lin are very closely linked to the Kirin in a near by kingdom. Blackwind has become nothing short of a vast interest to the princess whose power resides over Equestrian magic.

Besides his numerous visits with Twilight Sparkle Blackwind spends most of his free time with his second in command and head of the aerial division Soaring High. Soaring is one of the few ponies willing to put up with blackwind on a daily basis and often finds himself being pulled along on all major activities with the head of the guards as he insists on Saoring's company on important missions. Often time the results of this are long 48 days as Blackwind is known to go for days running off of coffee alone.
