- Nightfly is the first born daughter of Luna, and the only child with Sombra before his death. A very quiet pony, most of the kingdom believed her to be mute for most of her life. Nightfly keeps to herself a lot, and only truely opens up to a few trustworthy ponies. Besides her mother and siblings, the only other pony Nightfly fully opens up to is Nova. Although Nova always got along better with her cousin Euphony, (Daughter of Shining Armor and Cadence), Nova and Nightfly shared a bond unlike any other friendships the two may have shared. Nightfly was always able to speak her mind around Nova, and as they got older she learned perhaps it was Nova's bravery that helps Nightly to find her own voice.

- Nightfly earned her cutie mark when Luna gave her the task of bringing the stars to the night sky. Although terrified of failing, Nightfly tried with all her might, and created a breathtaking star shower. Taking after her mother, she was left in charge of the nighttime stars, and took one less burden off of Luna's shoulders.

- All her life, Nightfly has had to deal with ponies whispering behind her back, and she could tell some ponies were still unsure about her.. Seeing as her parents were both turned to Darkness and hate. Despite Equestria forgiving Luna, they still did not forgive Sombra; And never would. Nightfly feared the darkness that loomed over her parents would someday succumb her to the darkness as well.

- When Luna fell in love with her new consorts, Stygian and Tempest Shadow (Fizzlepop Berrytwist), Nightfly knew things were not going to be the same. She suddenly had a father again, and a new mom. And soon enough, new siblings. First came Acheron, the son of Stygian and Tempest Shadow. Although technically not her brother by genetics, by marriage and the unity that followed, he was. Acheron was a pesky little brother, always pulling on Nightfly's mane and poking and proding her with his horn. Nightfly tried to avoid him at all costs.
Eventually, it was time for Luna to give birth to her child with Stygian, another colt whom she named Vesper Nightlock. He was a different foal, he had vitiligo and a very soft demeanor compared to Acheron. Nightfly seemed a bit ore interested in this one, seeing as he was a direct genetic brother. Nightfly loved Vesper, and even though it made Acheron jealous, Nightfly wouldn't let Vesper out of her sight.
After a while, the three felt they were still missing a member to the family, and decided to help create a fourth and final offspring to the group.. With a gender swap spell, Luna and Tempest were able to conceive another baby. (Carried by Tempest, seeing as Luna already gave birth twice and Tempest once, it was only fair). This new baby was finally another girl, and they named her Serene Tempest.
Nightfly was originally excited to have a sister finally, until she realized Serene was also born an Alicorn. The magic contained in Tempest and Luna upon conception gave her the magic to be born a royal alicorn, and this made Nightfly worried. She had a rival to her place in the family now, and turned away from Serene. Serene though, she loved Nightfly immediately, and followed her around. (To Nightfly's annoyance). As they all got older and grew up together though, they all started to understand what it meant to be a family, and Nightfly loves all her siblings equally now.. Each in their own specific ways.

- When her siblings discovered their destinies, it made Nightfly feel a bit underappreciated. Each one of them had such an important task, it made Nightfly's role of bringing on the stars inferior.. But her parents were there to remind her just how important the stars were. Without stars, no pony would be able to find their ways home. There would be a little less beauty in the night, and nothing for ponies to make wishes upon when times got tough. The stars bring beauty, light and hope, and Nightfly needed that reminder to feel purpose to her life again.

- Even though she doesn't hate her anymore, Nightfly and Serene still have their misunderstandings.. But as sisters do, they don't stay mad at each other for very long.
