WOOOOT!! I fiNALLY posted some MLP! I've wanted to do this one for a while, but I just haven't had the time. This is only a small part of my (insanely) in-depth look at the Equestrian Military (which I may or may not release later. Dunno right now )

Anyhoo, time to jump right in!
NOTE: All of the example ponies are shown with horns. That is ONLY to show where a unicorn horn would be in the armor (same with the X on their sides)

1. The Guard
aka) Royal Guard, Tanks
Basic position: Private
Training: Difficult (army level)

— The Guard makes up the bulk of the Equestrian Military. They're taught to use standard weapons, basic fighting techniques, and strategy (which many of them tend to excel at). They're jokingly called the 'Tanks' by the rest of the military sections, but they really are the heart and soul of the military. They're the drafted ponies during war, the simple soldiers camping out on a massive battlefield, and the ones who get paid the least. These guys can do anything from guarding the palace to a head-on charge of an enemy.

-They're often considered the bravest of the military because they're the ones who watch their enemies thundering towards them during a head-on assault.
TACTICS: Mostly head on charges. NOT made for stealth. Almost never ambush.
WEAPONS: Sword, daggar, lance, mace (there are a couple specialty archery groups for the palace)

A | Armor- The armor of the Guard is simply made, easy to put on, and TOUGH. It can withstand a lot of heavy hits. It is mass-produced and is easy to repair.
B | Helmet- Provides basic protection. Sometimes used for head ramming
C | Sword Sheath- THIS GOES FOR ALL PONY BLADES! The blade is sheathed on the side of the leg in a retractable sheath (retracted manually) and is extended either on the top or side of the leg (personal preference)

2. Ground Forces
aka) Guerrilla, Gorillas
Basic position: Trooper
Training: Very difficult (marine level)

— The Ground Forces are similar to what humans would call Marines: they're the ones taking territory and coordinating attacks across-country. They aren't one giant mass like the Guard, all of them using the same techniques. They're more individual, each one trained intermediately in martial arts, their preferred weapon, and wilderness survival. Since they have fewer numbers than the Guard, each individual soldier can be taught to use a weapon they're proficient in (ex. Someone might be better with a sword than a bow, so they get trained by an instructor in that field.). While they don't know as much about strategy as most Guards do, they're more skill focused and are excellent for an ambush.

- The Ground Forces are a guerrilla force, meaning they use irregular tactics, taking their enemy by surprise most of the time and using ambushes, sabotage, raids, hit-and-runs, and rapid frontal attacks.
TACTICS: Ambush, sabotage, raids, hit-and-run, OCCASIONAL rapid frontal attacks.
WEAPONS: (Varies greatly) Swords (short, curved, long), daggers, bows, slings, axes, maces.

A | Armor- Consists mostly of leather for better stealth. It's more comfortable and light-weight than the Guard uniform but needs to be repaired a bit more often.
B | Helmet- both leather and metal
C | Daggers — hidden and exposed— are very common for Ground troopers. They're very handy for wilderness survival and in case of capture.
D | Many troopers choose to use double weapons.
E | There are several archers/slingshot users in the Ground Forces. Archers end to be unicorns

3. Air Force
aka) Aerial Forces, Birdies
Basic position: Airman
Training: Difficult (air force level)

— As the name suggests, the Air Force is… well… the troops in the air. They're sort of a combination of both the Guard and the Ground Forces, using more head-on assaults than the latter but more skills and surprise attacks than the Guard. The Air Force is ENTIRELY MADE UP OF PEGASI!! This is the ONLY species-restricted section of the Equestrian military. Each airman is trained in intermediate martial arts and their own weapons fields like the Ground Forces are, and also learn basic aerial strategy, such as using clouds, certain maneuvers, etc that ground fighters don't have to worry about.

-Every airman is also trained in acrobatics (the Wonderbolts were started from the Air Force) and formations.
TACTICS: A mix of head-on assaults, ambushes, and air strikes.
WEAPONS: (Varies) Bows, claws, short swords, daggers, slings, lances, throwing blades/stars, katanas.

A | Armor- ENTIRELY made of leather. It's lightweight, fairly durable, and easy to disassemble. Not much protection though.
B | CLAWS- This type of weapon is almost exclusively used in the Air Force because they are extremely difficult to walk with. They cause no problem during flight, however, so can be effectively utilized in aerial attacks.
C | 2 examples of flight formations and maneuvers.

4. Infiltration
aka) Ninjas (jokingly)
Basic position: Striker?
Training: IT MAKES ALL YA'LLS TRAINING LOOK LIKE A RELAXING DAY AT THE FREAKING BEACH!!!

— These guys are tough, sneaky, clever, quick-thinking, and strategic. They're the Navy Seals of the Equestrian military. While they're one of the smallest sections, they are BY FAR the most effective. They can take out strategically picked targets such as opposing generals or nobles and send a nation toppling in just 24 hours. They're all trained in every form of fighting until everyone finds their specialty and masters it, weapons included. Strategy is a necessity here, as is stealth, acrobatics, and peak physical fitness.

- While these guys' main job is infiltration/assassinations, they often team up with other sections or even fight in other sections until they're called back for a mission.
TACTICS: Ambush, infiltration, assassinations, stealth teams, scouting cities before the army attacks.
WEAPONS: ………everything.

A | Armor- Made completely of leather and darkened to black or camouflage for stealth. It's not super protective, but it hides them well.
B | Mask/Hood- The MASK muffles breathing sounds and provides basic protection for the face. The HOOD hides identity.
C | Every striker has a set of skeleton keys and lock picks.
D | Infiltration has hundreds, possibly thousands of codes, from written and verbal messages to ones communicated by lanterns or reflected light.
