Your Highness, I am sending this letter in response to the sudden arrival of your sister at the home of my fiance, Princess Cadance. You and your sister have always been welcome there, as you know, but the manner of her arrival was distressing to Cadance, and by extension, me.

She arrived late in the night, and proceeded to question Cadance on combat maneuvers and strategy. She told us of an impending mission, involving my sister, and of how potential companions were being recruited.

Cadance passed your sister’s tests, her marksmanship and her crystal-based magic being as highly regarded as they are. Between that and her strong bond with Twilight (having been part of raising her), I understand that Cadance would serve as fierce protector for her. Cadance herself is eager to go, now that she knows the purpose of these tests.

But I must express concerns. Cadance is an alicorn, and that makes her incredibly valuable to the stability of Equestria. I doubt she can go anywhere without being recognized, including by Equestria’s enemies. I would worry for her safety dearly and I can not in good faith condone sending her on this mission. After a brief discussion with Luna, it seems she feels the same and is only performing the evaluation at your request for thoroughness.

I worry just as much for my sister as well, however. As such, I ask that you consider me instead for the task. Though I am Captain of the Royal Guard, I should be able to maintain the discretion necessary for this task; Furthermore my skills would be far more appropriate for the task of warding Twilight.
