Either the Allfather Odin is very curious that He likes to explore other universes (even disguise Himself as a pony without His eyepatch, if it helps His plans), or He chose Rockhoof for His plans on Equestria's history. It could also be that the exact plans and intentions of the Gods can work in very unexpected ways.
Perhaps He should also bring His two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, to assist Him and His chosen warrior pony.
