It's all over, but the crying
And nobody's crying but me
Friends all over know I'm trying
To forget about how much I care for you
It's all over, but the dreaming
Poor little dreams that keep trying to come true
It's all over, but the crying
And I can't get over crying over you
So guess which story I just finished. No, really, take a wild guess.
I knew that as soon as I was done with Fallout: Equestria, I wanted to do something with Littlepip, but I wasn't sure what to do. Though I did know I wanted it to be staged more or less like the pic you're seeing here is.
My first thought was to do my interpretation of the moment Littlepip realized she could never have a relationship with Velvet Remedy. I was a big fan of that ship from the start of the story, and the moment when the story made it clear it wasn't going to happen was kind of an emotional moment for me.
And then I read the rest of the story.
And now instead of the song representing Littlepip's feelings towards her, it represents my feelings towards Littlepip.
Look I won't lie, I think Fallout: Equestria is a tad overrated. It's actually too dark of a story, and it goes beyond taking its time. And seeing as it's heavily inspired by Fallout 3's campaign, you can kinda-sorta guess where it's going to go if you've played the game.
But I don't regret having read it. It's a tough crossover and it was a valiant effort to make it all work. To me, it fell just short of "Greatest Ponyfic of All time" but I'm still glad I read it, even if it left me emotionally drained.
The star of the story is the characters. They're not the best but they do their job well enough. Even though Littlepip's constant reminder that she was sexually-depraved lesbian got a tad irritating after a while, she was likable enough. She went out into the wasteland to find her friend, but she stayed there and fought the good fight because it was the right thing to do.
And, I'm sorry, she deserved a better ending. I know it's basically the Fallout 3 ending and if you were going to adapt Fallout 3's campaign to a story, that's pretty much how you'd end it. But I hated Fallout 3's ending (I immediately bought Broken Steel for a reason) so I wasn't the biggest fan of how this story wrapped up.
But now, it's all over, but the crying. And the renders.
You will be seeing Littlepip and her friends soon again, just as soon as she (and I) finish recovering from the hell that is the Equestrian Wasteland.
