Spike's outfit from "Horse Play" is the stereotypical movie director's outfit from the Golden Age of cinema, often parodied in Warner Brothers cartoons. The outfit became a stereotype because it actually was worn by famous directors of the time, most notably Cecil B. DeMille (pictured here).
